About
Pioneers of the California wine industry, Concannon Vineyard has a rich history dating back to the late 1800’s when James Concannon imported the “Mother Vine” from Bordeaux, France. Trailblazing winemaking innovation, Concannon was responsible for introducing America's First Petite Sirah® and breaking gender barriers in the wine industry by hiring the first technically trained female winemaker in the 1950s. An early leader in sustainability, Concannon helped pioneer the development of sustainable standards for winegrowing, and was one of the first wineries to receive sustainability certification. Concannon continues the winemaking legacy, dedicated to crafting sustainable terroir-driven, Bordeaux-inspired wines. Today, an estimated 80% of California Cabernet Sauvignon have originated from the Concannon Clones.

Friends took us here, as we were visiting for the day. The grounds were lovely. It was probably about 45 min. before they closed so we were going to have a quick tasting then probably go somewhere else. We got to the tasting room and stood there for quite a few minutes before the lady behind the counter informed us that they were closing soon and that the tasting counter was closed. She told us that we could get wine at the outside bar. We walked out to the bar and stood there and waited for the people behind the bar to even acknowledge us. When they didn't we told the gentleman that we wanted a glass of wine. The lady, who was also behind the bar, rudely told us that they were closed and that we couldn't get anything. Mind you, there was still about a half hour left. We told her that the lady inside told us that we COULD get some wine there. They tossed us a couple of menus then continued on to their hurried cleaning up. We picked 4 glasses of wine and went to take them to one of the tables on the grass. We knew we had little time, but we wanted to drink our glasses of wine until they closed. While we were drinking, the lady was RUSHING all the tables for them to finish their wine by going table to table picking up their glasses and telling them they were closing. The wine was already over priced for how it tasted, but I have never ever been to a place where they rush the customer to finish their food/drinks so they could go home! This was on a Saturday no less. We left vowing to never return.

This winery has been a favorite of mine for years and I’ve been a member for as long. I’ve noticed a trend over the years of more and more children there. Today, was the last straw. There were so many children playing all over the place. Additionally, I wonder who’s driving these little people home. I come wine tasting to enjoy some adult time with my friends. The bathroom smelled like diapers. I’m canceling my membership. There were baby strollers in the members only club that were there before we arrived, and still there afterwards. A group of 5 women walking back to their car, each with a child on their hip. A brother and sister pair wrestling in the tasting room. Just inappropriate for a wine tasting venue.

My family and I stopped into the tasting room on July 25th. I am giving them two stars for their wines alone. Customer service was frankly, atrocious. I would give zero stars for customer service if I could. My sister wasn't feeling well during the visit, so she opted out of wine tasting almost immediately. She hadn't taken a sip of wine before she decided that she wasn't going to partake in the tasting.
We were served by Chuck, who seemed fairly knowledgeable about the wines upon initial introduction. However, it was apparent that he was more impressed with the group of girls that he was serving at the bar next to us, which was evidenced by the heavy-handed pours he was more than happy to dole out in stark contrast to the pours we were receiving. His general demeanor was anything but warm and inviting, which is pretty sad and inexcusable when you work in a customer service position in which you are forced to deal with people ALL day.
The icing on the cake was when my Dad decided to purchase two bottles of wine following the tasting. He purchased a bottle of the 2016 Mother Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and a bottle of the 2016 Nina's Cuvee Petite Sirah. At most distinguished wineries, tastings are comped or at least partially when you became a wine club member, or buy a bottle of wine. When my Dad asked Chuck about the winery's policy on compensation for tastings, Chuck was quick to let us know that Concannon only covers tasting room fees if you are a wine club member. I understand that Chuck isn't responsible for creating winery policies, but he is responsible for the condescending comment that came out of his mouth next...
Chuck had the audacity to retort, "Well I didn't charge you for HER tasting," insinuating that he was doing us a favor by not charging us for my sister not feeling well and choosing to sit the tasting out, even before she had ONE sip of wine. It truly is a shame that Chuck's lousy customer service and his brazen comments left such a bad taste in our mouths, as my family and I were largely impressed with the red wines we tasted that day.
Concannon should reconsider their policy on tasting room fees for customers who purchase at least a hundred dollars of wine, in the interest of competition with most wineries in the area.

We had so much fun! The wine was spectacular, the people who work there are so knowledgeable and friendly! We joined the wine club a few years ago...had to quit for a while due to finances, but we are rejoining! Can't believe how much we love this wine! A must try!!

We enjoyed the variety of wines for tasting. The staff is awesome and grounds are beautiful. It is one of my favorite Livermore Valley wineries.

I have been to Napa and Sonoma multiple times and while the wines are good, they are usually overpriced.
I visited Concannon for the first time a year ago for a tour and have been back multiple times. This year I even decided to get a membership. The wines are great and reasonably priced.
The winery is beautiful and it is the perfect place to hangout with friends. Pack your picnic, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the lawn! Even with a young baby, we are able to put him on the grass on a blanket with his toys and everyone is having fun.

Wow what a wonderful time we had here! The wine was amazing and the real jewel was Chuck! He explained so much about the vines! When you leave a winery with insight into a field you aren’t normally exposed to- you know there is passion in the making of the vino! Thank you for a perfect day!

Very nice winery with great wines, lots of history at this winery, they started Pinot Noir in California,. Great outdoor space. Very low key area compared to Napa over 30 wineries in Livermore.

Very well done, food was delicious & was very organized.
One thing I wish they would implement is to not allow children. Why anyone brings kids of any age to a winery is beyond my comprehension. They do NOT belong there!! No babysitter then you don't go, it's that simple. It's miserable for them, & people like me who do not have kids do nit want them running around.
