Something for everyone! Grassy areas for kids to run and play; picnic tables for lunch or snacks; basketball courts (check out a basketball or bring your own); and two levels of playgrounds, one for smaller sweeties and one for older kids. There are swings and tetherball, foosball and four square.

Something for everyone.

Tennis courts are next door but even if you don’t have a partner, you can practice on the rec center’s backboards.

There are also organized classes such as yoga and dance in the rec center building. Exercise equipment is inside as well.

Parking is on the street.

Enjoy!

The architecture is Irving Gill; the fun is pure kiddos, bit and small!

In the heart of La Jolla, this public space offers playgrounds for the really little kids and for medium kids as well as basketball courts for bigger kids and foosball, tether-ball, and grassy space for everyone in-between. There are also tennis backboards to practice and get ready to play on the courts next door.

Our kids played here when they were wee ones, and now my son's Boy Scout Troop still uses the green space when taking breaks from their Scout meetings on summer nights.

The Rec Center celebrated it's 100 year anniversary this year (2017) and it's been a great gift to the city of La Jolla. Come one, come all, young ones of age and heart, and enjoy!

Originally known as the Children's Playground and Recreation Center, the La Jolla Recreation Center is also an important historic and architectural landmark in San Diego history. It is the work of San Diego's most famous and increasingly admired architect Irving Gill. Today the Recreation Center functions largely as it did when it opened in 1915 and unlike so much of this architect's work, it's appearance is almost entirely unchanged.

The building was the gift of philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps who stipulated in her bequest that the building must be open to anyone, regardless of "race, creed or opinions."

This is a really nice old spot in 'old' La jolla. Situated between The Bishops' School and the Catholic church, it occupies a warm spot in most La Jollan's heart

This play ground is in a lovely spot, but desperately needs some shady place spaces and some updating (a few playground items are broken).

The rec center has a wide array of playground equipment for children, and well-maintained, very popular tennis courts for teens and adults. Numerous classes take place in the rec center itself. It is conveniently located across from the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the beach is just a couple blocks west of this facility.

They provide balls for children to play, have good bathrooms, a large grassy area, playgrounds, basketball courts, handball courts, and a tennis club. It is all free (not sure about the tennis part).

Just a couple blocks west of Girard on Prospect, the rec center is a great place to hang out and give the kids a break. Soda machines, bathrooms, play equipment, and grass areas also give the parents a break!
