I live in the area and have hiked this beautiful trail many times. It's great for kids, tame dogs on a leash, joggers, and walkers. Great peaceful walk in the early mornings but gets busy on the weekends around 8AM. Bring a camera if this...More

This lagoon stretches from Ponto (So Carlsbad) beach to the La Costa Resort. There is a walking trail that surrounds the tidal lagoon. very peaceful and beautiful. There is also a bird sanctuary just off of the La Costa exit from Highway 5.

This is probably the most popular walk in north county. About 3 miles round trip through lots of different vegetation, including an area of cultivated indigenous plants, always with a view of the lagoon and its bird life. Only negative is an area where lots...More

Had a great view of the lagoon from where we were staying. Hope to do some hiking next time. Husband just had surgery, so we were limited in what we could do. Looking forward to our return stay.

This is a nice place to take your dog for a long walk, but I have heard others experience aggressive dogs. Just be careful and keep control of your pup!

What a beautiful place! The lagoon is a salt water estuary right off of I-5. There is a walking trail 1/2 way around the water. The lagoon is filled with wildlife, which is astonishing in the middle of a city. You can hear some noise,...More

If you are a bird enthusiast or just enjoy bird watching, this is an excellent hike. Unique habitat with a clear well traveled trail. Mostly flat, easily accessible. I was too early for the nature center. My only negative is that the location is somewhat...More

The Lagoon trail is a safe and clean walking area, often see others enjoying the trail as well. We walked from one end to the other. It wasn't terribly taxing, mostly flat land but beautiful view of the lagoon, wildlife on a sunny day.

Easy walking path, interesting flora, lots of birds. Within sight and sound of I-5, it an oasis nonetheless.
