About
Immersed within extensive grounds, Masino Castle is the sumptuous residence of one of the most illustrious Piedmontese families, descended from Arduin of Ivrea, the first King of Italy; a thousand years of history encapsulated on a journey through beautifully furnished and frescoed rooms. Acquired in 1988 by FAI from Luigi Valperga di Masino thanks to a donation from FIAT, the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino and Maglificio Calzificio Torinese For more than a thousand years, Masino Castle has overlooked the immense Canavese plain from high ground in front of the evocative morainic barrier of the Serra di Ivrea – an intact and seemingly endless landscape. The strategic location of the castle resulted in it being frequently attacked, but the noble Valperga dynasty – whom, legend has it, are descended from Arduin of Ivrea, the first King of Italy–retained ownership of it right from the very beginning, documented as far back as 1070.

"Tre Giorni per il Giardino" on the 1st of May: plenty of beautiful, unusual, colourful, gorgeously-arranged flowers, perennials and plants from the best growers in Italy. Delicious food, both from the stalls selling their products and the food stands in a secluded part of the garden. The atmosphere of a British country fair in a relaxing, airy and lovely green spring setting. A visit to the surrounding park, with meadows and ancient trees, and to the labyrinth, is also worth. Stunning view on the surrounding landscape from the raised terraced part of the garden, where the labyrinth itself is. A moving, breezy sky, with strands of clouds, the delicate contrast of colours, the sunny and cool weather, something merrily old-fashioned in the air and the general May Day gist have rendered the day (for us, a fixed appointment twice a year when circumstances allow it) a perfect holiday from everybody's somehow dull daily life. A jewel.

National Trust membership grants you free access to the site (excluding special tours). Overall the place is stunning, not crowded at all, beautifully preserved with some really unique features, the caffè is truly well done with some good food choices which are properly served and very nice. The staff could not do more to assist you.
We took two additional tours for 5 euros (queen apparente) and 8 euros for the cellars, vineyard with a tasting of local wine. Worth every penny. The guides are passionate about the place and pride shines through as they recount the history. This makes the tours rather spell binding.
Best of all, the place is worth it for the view alone.
I strongly recommend a visit.

Fantastic views of the surrounding area. The story of a families declining fortunes but they were able to keep most of the historical items and the castle and grounds are being renovated. Well worth a visit. Some of ceilings are wonderfully preserved. Guide books available in English. Not all rooms as yet accessible. Very pleasant walk around the grounds.

When you are in the neighbourhood a must see. A beautiful palace with wunderfull views and nice garden.
There is a guided Tour of one hour. There are nice rooms with great paintings, ceilings, furnature etc. but they are not top. It is not made by the best artists but it gives you a nice indication how the elite who where not princes or ducs lived.

The castle itself is very big but you can visit only several rooms (1h or 1,5h organized and guided visits only) as the rest of the castle was under the renovation work (at least that's what I understood).
It is very interesting for those who likes history.
Once finished with visiting castle inside, go outside and have a walk first in the outside garden with its labyrinth (they claim that it's one of the biggest in Europe) and admire breathtaking panoramic views from several points.
Then go back to the castle and have a walk at its garden, just before the castle's wall.
Overall very pleasant time spent in a nice location.

The visit inside the castle was fantastic. I could even listen to the english translation on headphones. The gardens were perfectly looked after and the views from the top of the hill down are fantastic. It is a great view of the Morenic Amphitheatre.

May not be mentioned as a must see place in your travel guide, but definitly worth visiting!
The restoration work done by the FAI association is just amazing. The different rooms are showing how former owner liked foreign cultures. Gardens are also great and offer a nice view over the countryside.
Audio guide is available for the visit.

A winding, narrow road will bring you to a place of solitude and beauty. The view overlooking the countryside to the mountains and Serra ridge is relaxing and awesome. The castle itself has a history dating back to its begining in ancient times. The restoration has been extensive and the rooms are nicely decorated. We had a very knowledgeable young lady as a guide. FAI did a great job. The parking was good although the entrance was a tad tight. The surrounding gardens are well manicured, bring a camera.

C' è area picnic?

Confermo la risposta precedente. Non c'è un'area delimitata, ma c'è tanto spazio dove potersi sistemare per pranzare stendendo teli sul prato, con diverse zone all'ombra.

I am planning a trip in March to visit the castle. My plan was to stay the evening in a local town. Does anyone have suggestions for hotels, restaurants and/or AIRBNBs? Are there any events happening this time of year? Thank you

I stayed at The Gardenia, a three star hotel nearby Ivrea. Not an expensive hotel but nice and clean with a good breakfast. Not very far from the castello.

il parco è fantastico, ma non sono certo che permettano di fare pic-nic ovunque, se non ricordo male però vicino al labirinto dovrebbe esserci un'area attrezzata.
