City Beach is one of the most affluent suburbs in Perth, City Beach, the beach, has 500 metres of clean white sand. There's also picnic spots and children's playgrounds. City Beach is 10 kms from the centre of Perth, making it the closest ocean beach to the city. It's 10 minutes by car from the city centre. City Beach tends to be a bit more up-market than other nearby beaches,

We arrived in Australia at around lunchtime, fortunate to be met by, and staying with, friends. We came out here on our first evening to sip something sparkling and watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean. Plenty of activity, lovely spot, great way to be inducted into the Australian way of life!

City beach is an absolute gem of a place. Never mind the drudgery and shoddiness of Cottesloe. The new sculptures are such an unexpected joy, enhancing the natural grass plinth of the shoreline, providing a place to snap a photo with kids and friends. Go take a look.

This beach has earned the title of Perth’s best beach a lot of times and I couldn’t miss the chance to visit. The white sand makes it a beautiful landscape and there is a lot of space for swimming. I have never seen a beach with artificial groins before and the locals informed me that they were there for safety and for fishing. It is a regular spot for surfers and many Surf lifesaving carnivals are held at the beach every summer. You will see a lot of wealthy people since the area has a famous restaurant for fine dining. There is also a playground for families and family activities.

City beach is easily accessible from just about anywhere in Perth, with plenty of
parking beach side. The sand is squeeky clean, very white with fine sand which is
soft on your feet. The water is aqua blue, just like a lagoon and extremely clean.

The Indian Ocean can produce some windy days, especially after mid day, so mornings are best or in the evening if it has been a hot day. There are restaurants, etc., on the beach so plenty of opportunity for a caffeine or two.

City Beach is close to the centre of Perth and a delightful place to visit. It always reminds me of why I never get too excited about beaches elsewhere in the world - and I have seen very many of them. Beautiful white sand, clean water, safe surrounds. There are a few restaurants on the beach, but otherwise it’s mostly left to its natural surrounds: no shopping centres, no apartment blocks, no hotels, no parking meters, no entertainment complexes, no small businesses. It’s just a beach ... and goes forever north and south. There are a couple of areas of lawn and a few barbecues as well as a few small trees, a footpath and retaining wall, but otherwise the beach is pretty much like it would have been tens of thousands of years ago. There is not a better spot in Perth to bring a picnic, and a bottle of wine, to watch the sun go down in spectacular fashion each day.

This is a great beach - beautiful water and sand and patrolled by the lifesaving club. There are many flat beaches in Perth but this is a beach that has waves suitable for kids and adults alike. Parking is pretty good too - lots more bags compared to some other beaches.

As well as the beach, there are some nice grassed areas available too, including some deck chairs you can lay out on upstairs from the beach area. Lots of good food options here too, from the very casual to a bit closer to ‘finer dining’. Changerooms and showers are also available etc.

Only thing people should be aware of is that you may encounter some fish in the ocean here. This might sound like a dumb thing to say, but there are many beaches where you don’t get to see fish up close so just something to consider.

Overall, this is one of the best beaches in Perth

Clean and crystal clear blue water .
We came early.in morning before the wind and it was lovely. We walked out to the groyne and watched the local surfers and bodysurfers catch waves. Nice and clean and very safe. Lifeguards were on duty in the morning. A variety of food places nearby and you can get snacks and coffee from a kiosk further down. There is a surf club here but nothing like the east coast ones and it was closed when we're there so I don't think thwy do coffees etc.
A really nice beach close to the city.

People drive into this beach from their suburban homes and, it seems, dump their garbage here. We do not say this to take anything away from this beach that is good for sun set times.

City Beach is the closest beach to Perth Ciity being just 8 km from city centre, but is not as easy to get to as Cottesloe which is on the train line between Perth and Fremantle. However, if you have your own transport it is worth going to. Warning...In Perth we often get reasonably strong afternoon sea breeze and that can make it a bit unpleasant at the beach. The sun sets over the water and so you are looking into the sun in the afternoon. I prefer to go in the morning when it is usually calmer.
