Neither white sand nor turquoise water. A tourist trap of the worse sort, starting from the illegal guys collecting parking fees, to the hassle of hundreds of bars along the beach. Stay away.

The businesses for food were nonexistent all the places were empty . I could not see running water or refrigeration in any of the restaurants . There are people walking around with menus selling you the food at a higher price . Otherwise beautiful beach . No hygiene no bathrooms and no parking

The beach itself is nice & lots of areas to lounge at. The water is calm, refreshing & very clear. You can swim or take a short boat ride to the reef & do snorkeling.
But, Unfortunately we won’t be back due to these negative factors:
-too many vendors coming up to you every 2 mins asking you to buy anything from peanuts, massages, bracelets, fruit etc.
-The beach was overrun with people who didn’t seem to care about their surroundings. Drinking liquor straight from the bottles, tossing garbage. Children playing fetch with empty beer cans & vapes.
-It felt very much like the slums walking around the restaurants/gift shops with an endless amount of “charge by the hour” types every where you turned.
-smells, no washroom facilities that are clean
-not enough areas to enter
-WAY too crowded/everyone was basically on top of one another
-as a family, I didn’t appreciate my children being a witness to the s*x tourism that was taking place right infront of us

Right next door is Playa Alicia which is surrounded by lovely condos, restaurants & the beach is 100x cleaner & safer. If we go back to puerto plata, we won’t return to Sosua beach, Playa Alicia is much better.

Great hotel. The room was clean, the staff was helpful, the breakfast was great, and its within walking distance to lots of shopping. We had a great experience and will definitely return.

This area is crawling with locals who harass and try to take your money. It is truly unsafe. When we arrived we were offered a table to sit down if we ordered something from the restaurant (Restaurant Red Bar) so we ordered two drinks and paid $5 each for two rough looking beach chairs. After a bit of a hassle about moving the chairs in the sun (apparently they all have designated spots) then we ended up paying $20 for two drinks. But as we were leaving they tried to get another $10 for our table that was supposedly free because we didn't order food also in addition to our overpriced drinks. They also cheat you on the exchange rate for USD. They also act like they don't understand English but they do. It is all a scam and to be avoided. People bother you the entire time with things or services to sell. Very unsafe

Nice beach, calm waters compared to rest of north coast as it is in a bay. Good for my disabled son. Be very aware, the road next to the beach is not for driving - it is all street vendors. You will also have to pay a local for everything- parking, beach chairs, table to eat, more if you want to go snorkeling. It's a money grab for the locals for tourism. Also tour boats pull right up on the beach while you are swimming instead of going to a dock somewhere.

nice quiet beach with lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. not so commercialized like Alicia beach. there was a place to take a shower and rinse off my snorkeling gear for no cost. people were friendly there. also, there was always a police presence, to make us feel secure.
