The place is really huge, and they have a lot of different collections. It is one of the places where you could learn the history of CDO. We were just a little disappointed because some of our questions about the history wasn't answered though we are pleased they tried their best in sharing their knowledge. And they allow the works of some artist be exhibited here too.
You should also visit the place with proper attire because sometimes the guards won't allow visitors wearing shorts.
For people who loves collecting books they have some books for sale here too. They can also ship the books.

Located inside one of the prestigious schools in Cagayan de Oro City, Museo de Oro has been built to hold the greatest treasures of the city. The museum features some remnants of the pre-colonial settlers that lived in the caves of Cagayan de Oro, e.g. the Huluga Cave. In order to enter the facility, visitors should pay an entrance fee of 50 pesos for adults and 20 pesos for students. Just go to Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) and ask for the directions.

This is a beautiful museum where you can quickly learn about the history and culture of Cagayan de Oro. There are pieces on musical instruments, clothing and weapons on display, among others.
There are several murals depicting how life was then, one with the ethnolinguistic map of Mindanao, and one depicting various versions of stories of creation.
The guide we were with, JC, was very knowledgeable and passionate and answered all of our questions.

Location: Within the city center
Cost: P70 (borderline reasonable)
Facilities: Standard Museum
Service: Its more complicated and professional than it is friendly, but its not ok, not a big deal
Overall Experience: 2.5 out of 5 stars
This is well done, although not that big. Lighting, arrangement and lay-out are at par with southeast asian standards. Good for 1 and a half hour for a thorough viewing, 30 minutes for a quick walk through.
The payment of the entrance fee was a bit complicated; I had to climb 3 floors on stairs to tell the person in charge of the museum that I want to view, go down the stairs and go to an adjacent building where the cashier is (it is a school cashier as the museum is located inside a university), lined up with students to pay at the counter, and go back to the museum building with my receipt which I showed to person in charge who then let me in.
Overall, my historical and cultural senses were satisfied.

When you enter Xavier University, you can ask the guard directions to Museo de Oro or you can check on the map they have at the entrance. The museum has a fee for maintenance and it's P50 for adults and P20 for students. The first two floors of the building have completed their set up for the exhibits. There are two sets on the first floor and another two on the second. Very interesting and much better if someone shows you around to explain the exhibits. I had Jaycee (I think his name was) who helped explain the where they got their stuff and how they got to where they are now. Very knowledgeable in anthropology, too. :)

It was so informative regarding the history of Mindanao and Cagayan de Oro. I loved that museum. If you love history and anthropology, this small museum can really deliver. Entrance is 50. Just dont wear short shorts because you wont be allowed to enter the university.

If you have an interest in history, then this museum is well worth a visit. There is not a sign on the street to show the location of the museum, but just go to the entrance of Xavier University and the guard will direct you to the museum. The museum is setup in chronological order for the CDO area. There is a nice presentation of artifacts found in the area and artist interpretations of how the CDO area has evolved over the centuries. Since there are well written articles, It is easy to do a self-guided tour, but the day I was there I had a very good guide. He was a graduate of Xavier and gave a very informative tour. The museum is very well-kept and has good lighting and it was nice and cool, so you can enjoy it even on a hot day. In the upstairs, they had an art display, but I understand this is a changing display. I think you will enjoy a visit here!

Pros:
- Get a guided tour of the place, ASK!
- Our guide was friendly; his dad invented the motorela
- The toilet is clean!
- The place is air-conditioned
- The place is clean
Cons:
- I think P70.00 is not that worth it, I feel that there's more to know about CDO
- There's heavy traffic around Divisoria
- Good luck in finding a parking spot
