To get here, you can rent a van and tell the driver to proceed to Mapawa Nature Park in Barangay Cugman if you’re already in Cagayan de Oro City. You an also get on a jeepney and jump off at the Mapawa Crossing and take habal-habal from there (P35,- one way) and arrange with driver to pick you up later.
It’s best to call days ahead so the facilitators can prepare and inform you if the place is okay for canyoneering, if the weather is good or if it’s already fully booked. (Source)

One word sums up my experience at Mapawa - Wow! This hidden gem is beyond amazing. I am by no means the outdoorsy type, but I came here because my dad highly recommended it. I went with a group of 9 ages 5-60 and we all had a blast.
The housing accommodations were excellent. Food was delicious and abundant.
We did the zip line course the afternoon we got there, which was a good warm up for those of us who had never zip lined, rappelled, etc. The next day we went on the river trek. There were 5-7 guides who accompanied us, that being said, safety is definitely a priority here and that put us at ease. During the trek through the beautiful river and forest you go through several courses such as a natural rock slide, jumpping off a cliff into the river and my favorite, rappelling down a waterfall.
This property is so breath-taking, with nothing but amazing views surrounding you. I highly recommend this for families, a group of friends or team building. I know my family and I will cherish the memories of Mapawa for a lifetime. The kids have not stopped talking about Mapawa since we left. Friends who have seen our photos are now planng their trip.

FYI, there is no public transportation in the area. You will need to rent a vehicle, hire an expensive taxi, or hitch a ride from a motorcycle waiting along the highway. Motorcycle rates are a fraction of what a taxi would cost. There's about a handful of these guys parked in a shed right in front of the entrance to the park. These guys go up & down the hill every minute all throughout the day. Just grab your backpack, hop on and hold on to dear life!
Transportation back/down the hill is pretty much the same. If you hired a taxi, it might be expensive because he has to wait the whole day for you. Once your tour is over, there usually are a couple motorcycle guys that drive customers down the hill. Also during heavy rain, many taxis will refuse to go up there because of muddy conditions. Plan accordingly!

If you're a group of 5 or more, try to stay overnight in their farm house--trek early morning then do the zipline. Meals at the house are delicious and reasonably priced. They have a swimming pool but you need to check if it's open for use.

Can you simply swim there and not have to pay?
or is swimming only for those who payed the P1000 package/ 5 people(it is P1500 for solo)? i am planning to go there tomorrow alone and i am not sure if I will spend a lot of time there or not because I am not planning to spend much and if i have to pay, i might simply just go horseback riding. I don't think I will go ziplining. It is P325 and I already experienced ziplining a lot of times.

If you are looking for a nature trip with your family and friends, Mapawa nature park is the nearest option. You can go for a walk on their rope bridge, try their zip line, horse back riding or simply trek around the park to see nice views. The place is accessible if you are from the east or west part of the province. The only cons is the steep road during rainy days and the transportation back and fort if you don't have a car.

Was our P1,200/pax worth it? Our group of 5, availed of the River Trek and Canyoneering Package at Mapawa Nature Adventure Park. At our late 50s, my husband and friends (2 other males and 1 female) followed the instructions of our trek guide, Arnel to the letter. He required us to go through long, rocky treks before doing challenging once-in-a lifetime activities.
Wearing the right active wear consisted of light t-shirts, shorts/long loose pants, hiking shoes or sandals. We were required to wear the life vest and protective helmets all the time. Water proof cameras were allowed, no cellphones! A small jeep took us to the starting point of our trek. There was a magnificent huge 350-old tree that welcomed our entry to the forest park followed by a 15-20 minute trek thru stones, moss, tree trumps and creeks. Naturally one needed strong ankles, legs and balance to do this.
Alas our 1st challenge was to slide (on sitting position) on the 20-feet waterfalls which ends down a river. Brazing all our strength, we were able to glide our way thru that! Just follow the guide’s instructions and we will be perfectly alright! Other waterfalls that followed were less steeper and thus became a breeze when we had to do another slide and another down each falls.
2nd challenge, the 25-feet jump from a cliff beside a waterfall. The challenge became not only physical but psychological, mental and emotional as well. We could hear our hearts pounding and feel our legs shaking as we glance down the river where we need to jump off. This was to be done solo, at a time! Being 1 of 2 ladies in our group, I volunteered to go before my friend. There was no turning back. We needed to jump down, if we wanted to have our lunch! What a motivation! I positioned myself near the edge of the cliff, looked far at the horizon, with all the strength I could muster, I took one big breath and jumped! In a blink of an eye, I was down in the river and just found myself shouting, “I did it! Whaahhh!!! I did it!!
3rd challenge of the day, the 65-feet waterfall rappelling. It’s been 20 years since I first rappelled, so it felt like I was doing it the first time. After careful instructions of “how-tos”, one by one, our friends, took turns to rappel. The rappel will end in the river where a trek guide and a rubber tube will be waiting for us to be brought to shore. Being the last, I took my time rappelling down, enjoying the scene, glancing down my friends who kept on encouraging me. With the waterfall at the side, the feeling was truly exhilarating, rejuvenating, exciting! I enjoyed the rappelling much and cherish this experience forever.
The lunch that awaited us was a Pinoy classic - wrapped in banana leaves - rice, adobo chicken and boiled egg. I didn’t eat much. Perhaps it was because the adrenalin was enough to fill me! Mapawa Nature Adventure Park offers you the thrill of a lifetime, amidst its natural landscape. Where can you get such an experience! It was truly worth the cost after all.

Mapawa Nature Park is a go-to place in Cagayan de Oro for all adventure junkies out there. It has a camping site, which is also best for team-building activities. There is also rappelling, canyoneering, horse back riding, swimming at the waterfalls, and many more. It is located in Barangay Cugman. It is accessible via car/cab or if you commute, you may ride a "habal-habal" (motorcycle) from the highway.

We were a group of 3 when we got to the place. For P1,500.00 each, we truly enjoyed our memorable canyoneering experience. :)

A bad start to the day when several taxi drivers either refused to take us or demanded more off the meter. Eventually staff at Ayala mall advised us to take a taxi to the bottom of the mountain and then risk life be asking someone to take us by motorbike to the reserve. Insurance status unsure. It was 35p per person and it seemed quite a ride up the mountain so i wont despute the fee. Entry was 50p per person and we asked if there was a cafe inside. We were assured there was. After learning there was no phone signal in the area the shock of how to get back sunk in. The trusty rider who took us there offered to collect us at a pre-determined time. On arrival at the main area within it was a disappointment. The kids playground was dangerous. There was even a 10p charge to walk on a bridge. The bottled drinks were ar ambient temperature and the horse treck through the forrest was laughable as this turned out to be a walk up and down the concrete road. Perhaps the attendants were just lazy or not suitably dressed in flip fflops / slippers but it was a let down. We observed damaged safety equipment hanging up to dry from the previous activities...hmm I did not participate. The trusty biker failed to turn up as agreed leaving a bit of a panic moment but to the parks credit they brought us back to the main road for 35p each.
