A Must Stop On The Buffalo
Sep 2020
We son took us to the Gilbert Store, which is one of his favorite stops while vacationing in the area. I loved it. We enjoyed looking through the many different souvenirs etc., but we spent most of our time talking to the staff. They were very knowledgeable about the local sights and helped us plan our stay.

Bucket List Trip - Don't skip this trip!
Jun 2020
Buffalo river, in the Ozark mountains.
We used Gilbert’s shuttle service (Gilbert, Arkansas) to go from Tyler bend and floated back to our vehicle, inside Gilbert general stores parking area. *highly recommend their services, as they were extremely professional. Jeff actually drove our truck to Tyler bend and allowed us to unload our yaks, and then drove it back to the general store, and parked it, for us.
The water was so clear, you could the bottom the entire float. Amazing trip, absolutely picturesque! This was a bucket list kayaking trip, for us ✅🙌❤️💯

Great Spot to Start A Float
Jul 2020 • Family
My family of 4 started off our float from the Gilbert store. We went for the Tyler Bend to Gilbert Trip. It took us about 4 hours but I’m sure you could do it in about 2.5 if you wanted to stop less and paddle more. There were plenty of nice places to stop and clean areas to swim. Not to mention there are some awesome rocks/bluffs to jump from close to Grinders ferry. The price was reasonable for tow canoes. All the requirements were provided. Had a great time.

Buffalo River Gilbert
Jul 2019
The closest cabins to the Buffalo River. Easy walk down the hill. The store is fun but rather sparse. Get your supplies before arriving. People are great. There are several choices for accommodations our cabin was well maintained, great a/c and hot water.
Canoe and kayak rentals are at the store. They will transport you to a starting point on the river and float back to Gilbert or a longer float if you prefer. More expensive than most for the nice cabins

Something Special for Off Season Paddlers
Mar 2019 • Friends
We had been on the river for several days and paddled hard to arrive in Gilbert for lunch. It was about 1pm and the place we had planned on eating at was converted into a B&B. We decided to ask the General Store if there was a place to grab a greasy burger at this time of the day in the off season and was told they would make us one. The burger was excellent although they were low on condiments. Bottle drinks and chips from the store were also purchased. We enjoyed our brief stay and conversation with the gal running the store. She was kind enough to jump onto the internet and give us a weather update. The last we knew, a severe thunderstorm was predicted and she was able to provide us with a little more information which allowed us to adjust our paddling plans for safety reasons.

The general store is somewhat like stepping back in time. Nowadays, it is more of a souvenir and camping/paddling supply store. It is still worth the stop to come in and check it out.

Great time, beautiful scenery

My husband Brent and I were looking for a cabin to rent for two nights that was close to the river and had canoe rentals. We found Buffalo camping and Canoeing through a google search. We loved it. They are the closest cabins to the Buffalo river. It was a a short walk to a nice wide open stone beach by the river. We were able to end our boat trip right there and walk back to our cabin.

We had the entire place to ourselves since it was a Monday and Tuesday in Mid August and most of the summer crowd was gone. The cabin was perfect for what we needed and very clean and well stocked. I am not sure I would have liked to share the front porch of the cabin with people in the adjoining cabin if there had been other renters. It might have been a little too close for comfort. We were lucky since there was no one there. They have put a lot of money into their cabins to make them as comfortable as possible. They recently added wifi access for all their cabins. Some of the larger cabins looked beautiful and spacious.

Benjamin and his staff at the Gilbert General store were very nice and fun to talk to. They had anything we needed there and even provided us with wood for a campfire. By the end of our stay I felt like we had made new friends.

We also rented a canoe from them for the day and they took us up stream about 6 miles for a beautiful and leaisurley float down. Again it felt like we had the river to ourselves.
This is a quaint little town and a nice stop on our journey. A nice place to get away for some peace and quiet.

What a neat place to visit

It's almost like walking back in time. This place has some interesting antiques and souvenirs. Canoe, kayak, raft and cabin rentals headquarters. If you left home and forgot something they may have it.
