Serene and Lovely Scenery
May 2020
VISITORS to Namibia's southern port of Lüderitz tend to focus on the town's rich history and often ignore the beauty of the town's surroundings.

Agate Beach is one such places worthy of a visit and time permitting, to linger longer and have a picnic. Close to the water or at one of the well appointed recreational spots that overlook the bay to the one side and the Namib Desert on the other way.

Situated where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean expect wind when visiting Agate Beach. So plan and provide accordingly. Take along a jacket or windbreaker if visiting in the afternoon or in those hours leading up to the sun setting over the ocean, is advisable.

Oh and by the way, on route to Agate Beach make a stop on the roadside immediately after passing the water treatment plan. Spoil yourself to the abundance of wildlife to be seen in the wetlands.

A little further towards Agate Beach, flamingos are always to been seen at the salty lagoon.

Agate Beach a m must visit place in Lüderitz. Thank goodness the natural beauty has not been destroyed by over-commercialization and housing development.

Lovely beach

Lovely beach a short drive from luderitz. Somewhat shielded. Easy to navigate with 4x4 and great for kids and dogs. Spend many happy days here.

Sooooo much rubbish!
Jan 2020
The sunset view was incredible - picnic spots were littered with trash. We took a long walk along the beach and came across inaccessible restrooms..... filled with sand and trash. I would not go again and I'm amazed to see parents leave their young children with an older sibling to play in the water.

Full of rubbish
Sep 2019
Very disappointed with this beach and sad to see Turnstones, Oystercatchers, kelp gulls amd several other birds picking their way through the litter and rubbish on this beach. Such a shame as it could be a beautiful spot for families to enjoy the many beach bbqs there. Luderitz council clean up this area please..

Quick visit to pick up agate
Jun 2019 • Family
It was cold in Lüdritz. We went to Agate Beach before leaving for Keetmanshoop. Our kids (11-14 yrs) and adults enjoyed looking for Agate. We think we picked up the correct ones.
Public toilets: NO GO!!
Public space not well looked after.

Most beautiful sunsets
Jul 2019 • Friends
This is one of Luderitz's hidden gems. Drive Through Luderits toward the north. there are some picnic spots, you can also drive on the beach for fun and enjoy beautiful sunsets.

Run down beach facilities
May 2019 • Couples
Agate Beach wasn’t very interesting as we went there for the sunset but there was too much cloud and the sun wasn’t going to set over the ocean. The area had a lot of rubbish and the toilets were non-functional being filled with sand. But there were lots of BBQ places with tables which looked like they weren’t used very often.

This is a scruffy beach that is as desolate as the surroundings. Does have braai facilities if you must.

Sad
Apr 2019 • Couples
We visited this beach in the 1970's and have a beautiful photo block mounted hanging in our home. Now the beach is dirty and looks very sad. Found a small tigers eye

AVOID!!!
Nov 2018 • Solo
I was so terribly disappointed when visiting Agate Beach and in my view a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME - AVOID. The wide expansive beaches on the Peninsula to/from DIAS POINT are much, much nicer!
