- BaldeagleSan Diego, California6 contributionsEnjoy the water and sights!Small white sand beach that is in a very protected location. Very popular with locals and tourists. Restaurants available at the entrance to the beach and picnic tables under coconut trees if you prefer to bring your own food. Some Moai to view just behind the beach. They believe that this is where the King lived.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- Ali921Edinburgh, United Kingdom1,502 contributionsSurprising white sand beach on a volcanic islandOne of three places you can visit without a guide (the other two are Ovahe and Tahai) and visit as often as you like. Don't expect to have the place to yourself, always busy. It's a white coral sand beach, a surprise considering the island is volcanic rock, was expecting it to dark sand. Anakena has two ahus; Ahu-Ature has a single moai and Ahu Nao-Nao has seven, two of which have deteriorated. It also has a palm grove, car park, cafes and restrooms.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 30, 2024
- Rohit K37 contributionsBeautiful beachThis is a beautiful beach, with spectacular blue water, powdery sand, gentle waves, and lovely setting. Plan to spend a half day there — we stopped there on our island tour and it was insufficient. In any event, remember to take your beach stuff if you are stopping there on a tour. The service at one of the restaurants there was very slow.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 9, 2024
- ATTILA BMiskolc, Hungary672 contributionsSzép strandIt really is a beautiful beach. So far, I have seen few such beauties. The water is clean, fine and pleasant. The gold sand is clean and fine grained. It is worth taking the time to bathe if you travel to this island. The catering is chaotic. The waiter took the order in a minute. He served the drink after 20 minutes. They didn't start preparing the food in 1 hour. Service was continuous at the side window. Maybe you should have asked for a takeaway... But the tourist doesn't know that. That's why I can't give maximum points.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 14, 2024

Two restaurants and a sandy beach make this a great place to spend an afternoon. The water is a crisp aqua and the waves are white capped.

A wonderful spot to visit with beautiful turquoise waters and coral sand. It is the main beach of the island and was the ancestral residence of the miru Araki royal family. There are restaurants to enjoy and a small market.

March 18, 2020: This pre-evacuation excursion was truly the best of show of the amazing locations of cultural importance on Rapa Nui. We would have gone back to swim if we'd had the chance. Beautiful white sands, palm fronds waving in the breeze, majestic maoi standing guard eternally.

We were thrilled to make this our final stop on our tour. The first landing of Thor Heyerdahl was here. This area was also reconstructed in the 1970's. Black Obsidian was used for building of the platforms

Anakena Beach is a white coral sand beach and is only one of two small sandy beaches in Easter Island. Anakena has two ahus(platforms), Ahu-Ature has a single moai and Ahu Nao-Nao has seven, two of which have deteriorated. It also has a palm grove. It offers several photographic opportunities. As per legend, Anakena beach served as the entry point for the first settlers on Easter Island. Would recommend visiting this place with a local guide to get a better perception of history.

Anakena is our last stop on this tour, where six large Moai statues stand with their backs to the Pacific Ocean. There is also a nice, sheltered beach here where a few brave people splash happily in the water.

My friend and I will be traveling to Easter Island in January and want to know the following about paddle boarding:
1 Is Anakena is the only area with calm waters?
2. Anakena looks like a small body of water. Are you able to paddle out of Anakena and still have calm waters?
3. How much time should we allot to paddle boarding at Anakena?
Thank you so much. FYI --We have been paddling for a few years yet would like calm waters.

Anakena is the only real protected beach. I would allow 2-3 hours at least. You may want to stay even longer. As for outside the basin, it just depends on the weather. Note there is no rescue service or lifeguards so if you run into trouble, it’s isolated. There are more people around the Hanga Roa main pier area where there are surfers, boaters, divers. One thing going you can pretty much count on are huge turtles playing in the current close to shore so you may find you prefer hanging with them vs. venturing outside the basin to the deeper waters. So just consider that as soon as you leave the anakena area your out in open seas in the middle of the Pacific. Literally. Wishing you a wonderful time there and just be safe.
