- AJS1066224 contributionsThe old west charm is disappearingDon't get me wrong, old town Scottsdale is still a nice place to visit. We've visited several times over the years since 2000 and can see a slow change. We feel it used to have more of the old west charm, family friendly, safe and laid back. We feel it's increasingly more upmarket art galleries, jewellery shops and more panhandlers (one of which was a bit verbally aggressive which made us move on quickly) - we understand the cost of living and social/mental/drug problems can be a cause which is also a problem here in the UK. There's still a few places holding on to the old charm like the Sugar Bowl, Mexican Imports etc. There used to be a lovely shop we couldn't now find selling native and western things at reasonable prices run by some older ladies but couldn't remember what the shop was called or exactly where it was in old town, I guess that's history like the nice ice cream parlour Cactus Cones I think it was called. Scottsdale city states that free parking is now 2 hours but it was still 3 hours as before when we went so not sure what's going on there, I hope they've dropped that idea (there was ample free parking). I do hope that Old Town Scottsdale doesn't turn like in to a little version of Hollywood with all the contradicting fakery and deprivation that comes along with that. Will be interesting to see again in a few more years time.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 21, 2023
- LandyotGreen Valley, Arizona8 contributionsAlways fun!We go every year for my wife's birthday celebration. We usually stay at the Marriott Old Town or the Valley Ho. The Marriott is a bit less expensive and actually is closer to the center of Old Town. The Valley Ho is a retro-mod hotel and good fun. We usually park the car and walk everywhere during the weekend. We always hit the Rusty Spur Saloon. A small place, but big fun!! They most always have a solo artist playing good music and the staff is great. We usually take in the shops and galleries during the day and typically try different restaurants each evening. A few recommended places to see: The Waterfront Fashion Square Museums Many galleries and stores in old town A few recommended places to eat: Citizen Public House (upscale but reasonable) JT Prime Kitchen (a bit small & "dark" but good food, a tad $$$$) The Mission (good Mexican food - if outside watch out for the birds at dusk) Bootleggers (good smokehouse, usually not too crowded. Try the shine) Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers (typical burger & beer joint but tasty) We tried Bourbon & Bones once and found it very overpriced and not very good. Service and atmosphere below par. Have fun!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 9, 2023
- Cheryl WBoston, Massachusetts47 contributionsA fun place with lots of art and good restaurantsOld Scottsdale is so much fun. The art galleries are beautiful. The Museum of the West is fabulous. The modern art is incredible. The movies are so interesting. The silver saddles and cowboy relics are fun to see….and the statues are quite remarkable. And then there are the restaurants which are fabulous. A day in old Scottsdale is well worth the trip!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- NoraatcSudbury, Massachusetts39,403 contributionsJust restaurants and shopsPlenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, boutique shops, but otherwise nothing to write home about. Parking is plentiful and free in the garages. We walked for an hour or so and then headed for a Mexican dinner. Some boutiques have really pretty glass vases and statuettes.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 9, 2024

Volunteers staff an information booth in the center of the area and are very helpful. - Marya W1 contributionScottsdale is a fun place to visit.I went to Scottsdale with friends for a few days. We stayed at the Hyatt Old Town, which was a great location. We were able to walk to all the great restaurants, bars, shops and galleries. We enjoyed our time in Scottsdale. Everyone we encountered was kind and polite. The hospitality was off the charts.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 29, 2024
- Kim RLangley, Canada133 contributionsBe sure to put Old Town Scottsdale on your itinerary & you will be glad you did!!We spent our last day checking out Old Town Scottsdale & were extremely thrilled we spent some time there. So many beautiful shops, galleries & boutiques to check out & shopping galore. I think we spent about 4 hours & ended our day at the legendary Rusty Spur Saloon. We got to the saloon mid afternoon so it was busy. As I walk with a walker the only seating available was on the stools at the bar. We were in the midst of leaving & a very kind patron tapped me on the back & said they were just ready to leave & we could have their table. When we sat down the women & her 2 companions stayed up at the bar for about another half an hour. A big shout out thank you does not suffice her kindness!! The Rusty Spur had a very talented guitar singer & everyone was enjoying him thoroughly but more could have tipped him. As everything is made with the prickly pear cactus what would be better than enjoying a Prickly Pear Margaretta. The fun bar stools are a must picture taking memory. Be sure to put Old Town Scottsdale on your itinerary & you will be glad you did!!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2024
- RalphM33Stockton, California203 contributionsConvenient for shopping and diningWe chose to fly down, take a Lyft to the hotel and not get a rental car. Good choice! Downtown old town has hotels and a lot of restaurants that you can walk to if you stay downtown. Old town has a lot of galleries and other shopping options (if you are into that). Overall however, we loved walking everywhere and only used Lyft to and from the airport.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 3, 2024
- SkeeLovrHallowell, Maine490 contributionsLoved it!Three of us visited Old Town on Feb. 3rd when it hosted El Parada Del Sol Parade. Lots of horses and marching bands! This was followed by a "Street Fair." The streets were blocked off from traffic and there were food trucks, Mexican dancing performances, beer tents and several outdoor live music venues. LOTS of people walking, shopping, eating, dancing and just enjoying themselves! There are lots of interesting shops, some with museum quality wares. There are lots of restaurants and cafes, most with outdoor dining. I found Old Town to be tony and upscale, while at the same time, comfortable and laid-back, with an Old West vibe. I would have loved to have spent more time here!Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 7, 2024
- Louise MCastle Rock, Colorado3,867 contributionsNice Old Town feel, but too much of the same merchandise in shopsI love going to an Old Town on vacation, but it seems that the merchandise in a lot of the shops is touristy junk that no one looks forward to receiving. On the other hand, there are a lot of nice Native American shops with individuality. As in any tourist location, stuff is overpriced, then they offer 20-70% off. Sometimes you see a real bargain, but for the most part, not.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 9, 2024

Old Scottsdale hasn't changed since we've been here and that's ten years. The shops are cute, lots of jewelry stores, great bars, restaurants, and a lively night scene. The shop in Old Town close early so check if you want to shop.
There are now golf cart drivers offering tours of the area for a reasonable price. On Thursdays it's Scottsdale Art Walk which starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. The galleries all open and the area is so easy to just stroll, window shop, and enjoy the beautiful weather. There's usually musicians who set up so it's lovely to hear those sounds.

I LOVE Old Scottsdale, unfortunately my budget does not. There are so many wonderful shops and galleries to visit that it's hard to decide where to start (and what you just cannot go home without!). A member of our party had never been to the area, and we spent two wonderful days browsing the myriad silver jewelry stores and art galleries. Old Scottsdale also has an old western town charm that is becoming rarer to find with the encroachment of high-rise buildings and urban condos in so many of the historic southwest towns. You can find everything from silly souvenirs to breathtaking bronze sculptures. We have friends visiting from the UK and France this year, and all are quite excited that this quaint area of Scottsdale is on the itinerary.

I went with some friends to Old Town Scottsdale where I've been a million times. It's still fun, very tourist, but for me educational. I love the Native Western Culture and always learn something new. There are some old bars which are fun, and some new restaurants which are good. I was lucky enough to stop into a shop where I spoke with a Native American Owner which was so educational. I loved this ring I saw and he told me about the artist, I made a note of the artist so I could look them up when I got home.Quite to my amazement, when I got home I went to my jewelry store in La Quinta and she had the same artist that I wanted to buy a ring in Old Town but it was so overspriced. I ended up buying the ring I wanted in my home town jewelry store for about 1/2 the price. So, for me it was educational. For my family, they loved all of the southwest art, jewelry, people watching, etc. I will continue to go back just because its so fun and fun to see how overpriced they are! LOL

Very cool little town with parking that is tough to find but free. Restaurants and outdoor seating look awesome. Did have the worst cup of coffee at a local shop. It’s a bit expensive as you will notice the clientele who frequent the area. However, it is 70-degrees out versus -10 back home so anywhere is awesome! Wish we had more time as we were on a time constraint. Be sure to go over bridges to more shops as we did not see until we left. Would go back!

Old Town in Scottsdale keeps getting better. As a snowbird coming out for winter months, Old Town is our go-to place to dine, walk, and pass a beautiful afternoon. Yes, there are t-shirt stores and turquoise jewelry galore, but there is also an abundance of quality art galleries, restaurants and bars, boutiques and entertainment. The Civic Center which boasts a wonderful performing arts center has a lovely theater where you can’t get a bad seat and a program rich with diverse entertainment, not to mention a wonderful gift shop. Free concerts every Sunday in the winter draw enthusiastic spectators enjoying the music and the glorious weather on the lawn as some shoppers grab a bite or shop the vendors who display their crafts around the venue. The waterfront area offers some of our favorite restaurants, and Art Walk on Thursday nights is a visitor’s delight as the galleries remain open and streets are decorated with lights and filled with street musicians. If that’s not enough to bring you here, parking is free and abundant. How welcoming can a city be! We love you, Scottsdale!

A lot of art and jewelry shops that all seemed to have the same stuff but a fun place to check out. We went in the morning and we did find that a lot of stores do not open until 10 am or later. Lots of pubs and restaurants in the area if you wanted to stay for lunch or dinner. Town shuttle is certainly a good way to get around the town.

One of the main attractions if not the main attraction depending upon your reason for visiting the area in the first place. Restaurants, retail of every caliber, boutiques, galleries and bars doesn’t began to cover the wide range of businesses in this historic retailed center of Scottsdale town center The western themed area is a walkable attraction where you can decide your direction and time limit and hardly ever run of something new around the next corner.
What I would call a shopping/entertainment district of upscale Scottsdale area has such a diverse array of stores that carried everything from high priced art to cheap, less than a dollar souvenirs, in other words something for everyone sort of interspersed with each other. Thousand-dollar sculptures in one store and Santa Clause snow globes across the street. Upscale boutiques on one corner, t-shirt stalls on the other. As Scottsdale’s only bonified family friendly attraction that can entertain you for the better part of a whole afternoon and beyond if you dine there, Old Town Scottsdale caters to the visitor as well as the locals. Ample free parking is available depending upon the time of day and the time of year you visit, otherwise a little searching and or walking may be necessary. The southwestern theme is prevalent but not dominant in every store or restaurant, but if you’re looking for a new pair of boots or a new cowboy hat, you’ll find it here. Many of the stores carry unique one of a kind hand made items while some carry internationally recognized brands.
Take the time to visit at least once while in town for whatever reason your there.

A lively and marvelous attraction to visit, Old Town Scottsdale has an old western town charm. There are a number of shops, restaurants, bars and art galleries that can be enjoyed here. In spite of being crowded, I found the vibe and energy infectious in a positive way. Strolling through the art galleries area and checking out the gallery exhibits was a wonderful experience. There are a number of restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlors - it was an absolute delight to walk around soaking the unique feel. The Old town is spread out over a few blocks and thus makes for a leisurely stroll. Alternately, one could choose to hop on to the free trolley which runs frequently and stops at multiple locations throughout the old town area. There are a some dedicated parking lots and a number of street parking spots so getting parking shouldn't be too difficult. Renovated old buildings, interspersed with beautiful bronze statues and little shops made for a memorable visit to Old Town Scottsdale!

Must checkout the art walk. The area was just so beautiful, relaxing and the restaurants were fantastic. Just roam around the streets and you’ll find many of the galleries open and art walk will go from 7-9P. Enjoy strolling along and listening to music.

Old Town Scottsdale is a wonderful place to spend a free day. It's packed full of galleries and great places to eat. Great "old-west" vibe. Lots of talented street musicians Pro Tip: Many of the galleries are closed on Sunday, so plan accordingly

Best places for high school students!! Here visiting colleges and heard about Old Scottsdale. What do you recommend?
Written April 3, 2018
You can rent bikes and tour around the area, or even go on a bike tour (fat bikes has a tour). Last I think there are segway tours, but not 100% positive. It is a happening place for college kids, but yours are too young for the drinking establishments.

I have a 93 years young relative visiting me here in Arizona and want her to visit Old Town Scottsdale. She cannot do too much but what are the spots she shouldn’t miss besides the ice cream parlor????

Just driving through old town is fun enough. But I would recommend stopping at Seas candy store. It’s definitely a bucket list item some of the best chocolate around. There are a couple of side streets that have the unique gift shops. My only other recommendation would be to drive through at night time when all the lights are on and everybody is out and bouncing around. Craft 64 is an awesome restaurant has wood fired pizza salads and sandwiches farm to table freshness. Unless she needs a lot of souvenirs driving through can be just as much.

If parking is limited to 3 hours what does everyone do? I'm thinking between shopping and eating we will go over the 3 hour limit.
Written March 15, 2018
Hi and Let me answer as a native of Scottsdale. I think parking is really nothing to worry about! Your hotel is one way or some of us natives who aren't use to the 3 hour limit is some spots...just move our car to the next place we are going. Also lots of free parking of some streets and garage by Olive and Ivy is a great place to park. Its was a bit crowed last weekend because of Spring break and Spring baseball games however we found parking with a little patients. Have Fun!!!! March and April are beautifull here in Scottsdale!
