Planned trip to Phoenix for after the holidays, and wanted to make sure family could tour Taliesin West. Site not updated with current hours, so called and left message w/ director of marketing to schedule tour on New Year’s Day. Never had decency to return call - but eventually did update site. Continued to include tour in our visit. Got to Phoenix and was not able to confirm tour availability- again because nobody was available to answer the phone or return our calls. Frustrated enough decided to make trip out to property and make arrangements in person. Several small tour groups in progress when we arrived, so found ticket booth and curtly told no way possible to purchase tour tickets. Was told we should visit the gift shop - which I felt was fairly insulting after what we went through trying to get basic responses on tour. As members of the Chicago area FLW Foundation, we’ve never experienced such rude treatment with a “could care less” attitude. Taliesin West appears to be little about promoting the legacy of FLW and more about accommodation of the group operating the location. How this has become a top location to visit in Phoenix is beyond us. Def not due to efforts in marketing, website maintenance or person manning ticket booth today. They have a prime attraction - and know it, treating public as an inconvenient intrusion.…

Truly enjoyable and good information shared in an hour. One suggestion would be to open with telling us what the meaning behind the name “Taliesin” is. It’s welsh for “shining brow” and a nod to Wright’s Welsh roots. And I had to look that up. Our tour guide Mandi was enthusiastic but oddly would never make eye contact when she was speaking to our group or when we asked a question. All in all we are glad we went. …

If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan this is the tour for you. Great insight into his design style and life.

I was a bit dissapointed in the tour. Perhaps I'm not as big of a Frank Lloyd Wright fan but for somewhere not too keen on architechture or FLW history I was probably the wrong candidate to do this tour. I guess after hearing about this for yrs I thoght that the home would be more spectacular than it was. No problem with the tour or facilities but to me unless your really into the history of FLW or really into mid century modern its an attraction you can pass on…

We took the 3¼-hour tour and loved every minute. Our tour director did an excellent job, and we learned more than I can ever remember. Not only did he tell us about the school, FLLW, architecture, and everything else, but he had a lot of amusing anecdotes. Each story seemed to illustrate Wright’s genius, arrogance, and eccentricity. One special treat was a guest speaker—a woman whose mother was one of Wright’s first students. The speaker grew up with the Wrights, now lives at Taliesin West, and is an historian and archivist.…
