Looking at the earlier reviews I envy all the people who have previously been able to see inside this architectural gem. Count yourselves lucky, those days have gone.

I am from the U.K. and have been visiting this area (&FLW house) for years yet no-one had ever mentioned David & Gladys House until I read about it by chance. Baffles me why it is never mentioned at the FLW house tour.

Determined just to see where it was my husband and I drove up there last week and were DEVASTATED to find what we did. Although the house still stands, the beautiful gardens that previous visitors had mentioned have been sold off and new properties are currently being built on that land - HOW IS THIS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN?! The house is still there but now with no garden, FLW’s vision destroyed by greed for $$$$$

We can only assume the new owner had nothing but making money on their mind but is there not a building heritage law stopping such destruction? In the U.K. the property and grounds would have had a protection order on them and no-one could have done anything except preserve one of the rare historical FLW gems you had sitting in the palm of your hands. Sadly it’s slipped through your fingers and there’s no going back.
So…if you want to have your heart broken, drive out and see a glimpse of the house and a load of new houses being built in the back yard.
Irreversible vandalism and an utter tragedy.

Lots pf reviews on here from people just showing up. It is not a museum No no ,no you need to sign up for a tour. You cannot just show up and go in there. Try again, and sign up for the tour. Pretty amazing view and architecture wonder from a master. The view of the grounds is worth the price of admission alone.

Only after we arrived at this site after a 30-min drive did we find out it was closed (or just to public view). The property was fenced in and screened off. We didn’t see any signage of an entrance or tour. A property for sale sign stood adjacent to the property on Rubicon Street. Confusing. I was glad to be able to at least “steal a look” through the fence. What a shame to hide an architectural gem!

I was able to visit the house as part of a special architecture tour activity going on in Phoenix. Classic Wright architecture, but the house itself is very small especially for a group tour (more than 10). The grounds are very spacious and currently have sculpture from a Japanese artist. The entire property is screened off and you must enter from a church parking lot on Camelback.

The house is now surrounded by hording screens along the street. The best you get is a glimpse of it through a gap in the hording gate. Not sure if its being renovated or what.

Every time we want to go to this house it is not open. Could not find a list of days it is open and times. I guess it is hit and miss.

The ingenious design of Frank Lloyd Wright for his son David, a slump block salesman created a magical wonder of roundness out of 8x4x16 slump blocks, including their original swimming pool currently concealed & covered with dirt and grass...all out of slump block and the magical wood treatments and lighting only a genius could have created!

Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built this house for his son, David, in 1952. It was recently up for demolition, but the last owner instead decided to donate it to the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Group in honor of Wright's 150th birthday this year, and we all get to enjoy the benefits of this...jaaa!! The house includes a spiral section that is a precursor to the Guggenheim Museum in New York City...it is fun to visit this house and see Wright working out the spiral idea thing before applying it in a bigger project on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The grounds are lovely...the setting is serene...and the house is clever and magical. . .I highly recommend a visit to the David Wright house--you will be doing your part to support all things Frank Lloyd Wright by visiting--plus, this baby will make your heart race...at least it made mine race. . .or maybe that was the coffee. Enjoy!

I'm not certain whether or not David Wright house tours are being conducted now due to a controversy in he neighborhood relating to over parking and crowding, etc. Check the website to be sure.

The property is fabulous. The structure unwinds like a spiral. Certainly not a house for everyone but Wright set the stage for what we now call mid-century modern. Even his house Prairie House designs from the 30's and 40's reflect that openness and ground hugging perspective. Here you MAY have a chance to see what he designed for his son later in his career. We totally enjoyed seeing it.
