Top ways to experience Teatro Colon
The area
Address
Neighborhood: San Nicolás
Immersed in the sound of honking horns and the footsteps of busy office workers, the Microcentro area of San Nicolás is where visitors will encounter the true hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, walking down streets lined with office buildings and banks. The financial district is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and unstoppable rhythm during office hours. After dark, the hubbub migrates to Corrientes Ave., where theater lovers might start their evening at a play and end it in one of the many traditional pizzerias nearby. During the day, Corrientes is known for its many bookshops and classic cafés, which are located just minutes away from some famous landmarks, like the Obelisco, Avenida 9 de Julio, and the Teatro Colon.

    Great show
We went to see a show and an English guided tour. Tour: Learned a lot about the theatre. It was enjoyable. The Orchestra: We went on a saturday night. Amazing! The sound is fantastic. So fantastic that you hear every single cough a person makes! So bring some cough drops or mints if you need some!

    Don't miss this tour!
Absolutely stunning! My ten year old and I were blown away by the beauty of the theatre. Don't miss booking a tour. Tours open at the start of each month and there are limited English options. The tour group was not large (in July) and the tour guide was excellent (and a little funny :-) There isn't signage on what to do when you arrive so ask where the English tour starts from and arrive 5 - 10 min early. It starts on time (unlike walking tours we did that all started ten minutes late). The theatre is beautiful and a must see on your trip to Buenos Aires. Couple it with morning or afternoon tea at Confiteria Ideal and you have a perfect day!

    Maravilloso

Theater Colon known as one of the most beautiful Opera House in the world built with a perfect accustic system, very acrued.
My daughter and I deeply enjoyed the guided visit to the Colon Theater well known as one of the best and more beautiful opera house in the world. Art and luxury everywhere. Amazing and heavy chandeliers with 100s light bulbs. Statues made od Carrara Marble. Magestic staircases. The colosal theater stage, with an exclusive accustic system developed by exhimius musicians and sound directors, made this theatre a plesant place to visit.

    Beautiful theater house
The theater is stunning…no expense spared when it was built, that’s for sure. We took an English tour. Lasts just under 1 hour. The guide’s English was pretty good, we felt that the tour could have been a bit more robust in what information was shared about the architecture and function of the theater.

Art and architecture is the best
Exploring Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires was a captivating journey into the world of opera, music, and architectural grandeur. The theater’s opulent architecture and historic significance provided a rich backdrop for a cultural experience. Attending a performance at the Teatro Colón was a true immersion into the world of art and music. The acoustics and the grandeur of the auditorium added to the magic of the experience. Guided tours of the theater allowed me to appreciate its history and architectural details, from the stunning chandeliers to the intricate ceiling paintings. The dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the theater was evident throughout. Teatro Colón is a must-visit for art and music enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into the artistic soul of Buenos Aires.

    Definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful venue with a rich history. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and spoke great English. There are only a few English language tours daily so book online. They were sold out on Trip advisor and Viatour so I booked directly with the venue.

    Do visit Teatro Colon
We went to the 11am tour in English, led by Lucia. Fun tour, excellent guide, learned lots of tidbits about the theatre and the productions. Beautiful theatre. Wish we had had time to attend a performance.

Architecture and ballet at its best in Teatro Colon
My wife and I attended the ballet performance of The Taming of the Shrew at Teatro Colon during a recent trip to Buenos Aires. We had standing room tickets on the 6th level behind the last row of seats. There was no problem seeing the stage. The music by the orchestra was outstanding. The architecture of the theater is spectacular. We were able to see the grandeur of the theater and experience a performance for only $1,400 pesos, which at the time of purchase was US$5.00. It was really special to get to see Teatro Colon.

Outstanding guided tour of gorgeous building
Wow! How special to tour the interior of this theatre. It ended-up being a highlight of our time in Buenos Aires. We booked one of the English speaking tours on the website. (Note—we were glad to have done so in advance, as the tour was sold out day-of!). Our fellow tourists were from all around the world, which was really neat. The tour guide spoke English well and provided great insight into the architecture and history of the building. I thought the right amount of detail was highlighted—enough to be interesting and engaging, not so much that you got overwhelmed. The building is absolutely gorgeous; its stunningly ornate interior is a real tribute to opera and the arts. The tour included the beautiful lobby areas, which feature several kinds of marble, sculptures of famous composers, ornate stained glass ceilings, and several motifs in the decor devoted to composers. We also saw the gilded “hall of mirrors.” And we saw the gorgeous main auditorium, with its many levels of seating and exquisite main chandelier. While we were in the auditorium, we got to see the crew working on a set for a new opera that will soon premiere. The tour took about an hour and was well worth the time and cost. What a gorgeous building, full of life and art.

One of the major tourist attractions of Buenos Aires and rightly so. Not especially grand exterior but beautiful inside, the reception, stairs, smaller concert room and the magnificent concert auditorium. Very impressive just to see inside it, it certainly would cause people to think about seeing performances if convenient.

Beautiful theater; tour was led by a knoedgable local expert who spoke English. In under an hour we saw highlights and heard history before the climax upstairs in the box seats.

This is a must visit place in Beunos Aires. The neighborhood is lovely. Streets are lively. Building is Grandeur. 115 yrs or so old. Kept looking at the deatails of the art work on every pillar. The glass works, the ceiling, the multilevel balcony viewing sttod and wondered hos they did then. Loved the architecture and indeed its a great theatre that has stood the time with great stories to tell

If you are thinking about visiting the teatro with a tour, check the schedule and try not to visit on the day of a premiere night, as they will probably be doing light and sound checks. I read that this had happened to someone else on TA but did not understand the reason. Well, the same thing happened to us yesterday.
The visit of the main attraction, the inside of the theatre was done in pitch black ! The guide let us sit in a stall, in the dark, in silence for ten minutes. Not quite satisfying as the price is the same. It was quite a let down.
The guide told us at the beginning of the tour, but we could not postpone as this was our last day. Had we known in advance we would have passed. The visit is pricey. The guide was still very nice and engaging.

We went to see the Colon Theater. This is the first time I learned that Colon is an another name for Columbus! As in Christopher Columbus!
It just goes to tell you that as you travel you learn more! Anyway, we got this 1 hour guided tour of the Colon opera house!
Our guide gave us an excellent history of the place and showed us the balcony of the opera house where we were able to see the stage.
She also told us some interesting facts about the various seats in the opera house!
I think you should not miss this tour!

We bought tickets online in advance for an English tour of the theater. Our group consisted of about 30 people; the guide's English was excellent. We were taken through many of the lobby and other areas inside the building but outside the theater itself (all very beautiful) with plenty of time for questions and pictures. The end of the tour allowed for some time inside the theater itself - our guide spoke for a few minutes, and then we could walk around on the floor amidst the seats for better views and photos. Overall the theater is impressively gorgeous, and we were very happy to get a chance to see it up close and to learn more about it.

We saw Carmina Burana performed here and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The acoustics are like nothing I've ever heard! And the architecture of the building is incredible. So incredible it makes you feel a little sad when you see how cheap and uninspiring most modern theaters are. Highly recommend seeing a show here but if you can only manage a tour then that's probably a great back up.

This Opera house is a must see in BA. I tried to buy a ticket for a tour online but it didn't work with my Aussi credit card. I lined up at the box office today not long after it opened at 10 am. The ticket cost around $17 AUD . It only took 5 minutes to get to the front of the line. (The queue yesterday was out the building and down the road ). I was able to get an English-speaking tour for an hour later so I had a coffee in the cafe while I waited. The tour guide takes the group around and explains everything about the building and the Operas they have had etc. The building is amazing, so beautiful.
