We were disappointed while visiting Tomar to find the ancient synagogue in wraps for renovation works. There is an exhibition of its treasures available elsewhere in town but this was a box we couldn't tick this time around, if you're visiting in 2018 you'll probably...More

The synagogue was under construction so we did not get to see much. However, down the street there was a great exposition on the Jews of Tomar and objects that are sacred to Synagogues. Try to visit as this is the oldest Synagogue in Portugal.

I only stopped into the synagogue briefly because I didn't want to disturb a tour that was being conducted at the time, so it's hard for me to provide a comprehensive review and better score. In reading about this site, I believe that this place...More

So as it is being renovated, we will have to return....but nearby just next to the river there is a museum or where the electrical turbines were....that has some display of the Jewish Museum, that will be the Cultural Museum of Tomar....by the dam.

We had hoped to see this, but it's all under wraps. There are some items on display at the Cultural Centre, but that was closed the day we were there so we didn't get to see anything of the Jewish presence in Tomar. At least...More

Although not a operating synagogue any longer, this building we were told is the oldest remaining structure of what was a synagogue in the ibereian penninsula, dating back to the 1500s. We can only imagine the history of who passed through its doors throughout the...More

After a few moments browsing, the very kind elderly volunteer told us a lot about the synagogue (this is only helpful if you understand Portuguese or have a translator to hand). I didn't get her name, but she is more than willing to answer questions...More

There really isn't much left to see at this little synagogue in the town of Tomar; however, I'm personally grateful that the community has seen fit to keep it open as a reminder that there was a Jewish community for many years in this Portuguese...More

This tiny and ancient synagogue is a remnant of the pre-Inquisition Jewish community. Somehow I was able to communicate with the elderly woman who was selling tickets for the visit, and she told me she was one of the two Jewish families still in Tomar....More

The place dose not act as a synagogue any longer as there are almost no Jewws left there. It is now som kind of a museum sponsored by Abraham Zachuto and a lot of donates from Jewish people from arround the world. It is important...More

The synagogue is easily accesible by walking. I would not know their schedule. Best to contact them directly for this type of information. Good luck, and enjoy!
