We visit the baclaran church after so many years. After we left the parking area in front of the church, we almost got mugged. I have 2 young children with me. Someone threw a wood with nails on the street so our tire blew up. We parked beside andoks to see what happened. And before we parked we heard someone shouts ‘they are at andoks!’ Me and my kids got really scared coz no one helped us. My husband and our driver tried to fix the tire. Luckily there are soldiers nearby who are having lunch. They waited beside us until we finished changing the tires. It’s like someone is just waiting to mugged us in broad daylight. Luckily there are these soldiers who stayed with us to keep us safe. Been to baclaran when I was younger but I’m not sure if I’ll come back again in the future.

I went to the Baclaran Night Market for many years. It’s busy craziness was always a tourist attraction. The streets were full of vendors and a pedestrian crowd, and no cars. But now no more! Since the Filipino Police cleared the roads since ca. July 2019, there is not much going on here anymore at night. Good for the cars, but bad for the people. All vendors on the street disappeared, and only the shops in the buildings remain. By this, the place is now no different than any other place in Manila, hence no tourist attraction anymore. Goods are still cheap, and you have enough options to buy shoes, clothes, bags, electronics, but it’s all in stores, no more a street market, and it is not worth going there to make adventure street photos at night. The Baclaran Church is still a good tourist attraction, but for the church, go at daytime!

It is a few years since I last visited Baclaran market and it doesn’t seem half the size today. Street stalls and hawkers try to sell everything. Keep your valuables back in your hotel.

This is a local market with a long stretch of makeshift stalls selling various stuff, from fruits to kitchen wares, clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, etc. Prices are cheap, targeting the locals. The market is hot and crowded, hence be extra careful with your belongings. We visited on a Wednesday morning, even more crowded as devotees are flocking to the nearby church.

This market is very big and there is a lot of things to buy. It’s very cheap and the people are very friendly. There is a lot of beggars and some are children so definitely be careful with valuables. The only thing is that I couldn’t find any souvenirs witch the Philippines on it.
