Every Wednesday 11AM, the centre is open for visitors tour. A good place to take your budding scientist.
Centre staff patiently explained the centre's role, how data is collected and visualised and how the info is useful to us. Also a lab walk through is included which gives you a touch n feel experience.
Highly recommended if you are in Hermanus with kids on a Wednesday.

"It's still rocket science" takes on a practical meaning here - its amazing what this little known agency does in space science, and inspiring young learners to buckle down and 'do the math and science'.
A wonderful view into South Africa's role in space among other supported by the Antarctica base. A definite 'must do' to motivate the children with a day visit to this facility!

A great place to learn something. The staff was enthusiastic about everything and well equipped to answer any questions that came up. I am not sure why I did not really see this as something I would do again. Maybe I was tired from the hike or maybe it was the stupid repetitive questions that lacked common sense... Having said all that, it really is a great place to visit if you are interested in learning about the earth’s magnetism.

It's not the usual attraction you would expect on the Whale Coast but definitely worth a visit. We were shown around different buildings and the staff appeared very focused on their respective roles. There is no charge and is well worth a visit.

The SANSA Space Centre is one of 17 similar sites set throughout the world all monitoring the effects of radiation from the sun. Open Wednesday mornings and telephone reservations are advisable. The research staff is professional, interesting and friendly and we enjoyed the guided tour through the Centre. This is a worthwhile visit and can be highly recommended.

SANSA Space centre is a must visit when in Hermanus. Unfortunately it only offers 1 tour a week but the guide was interesting and friendly.

SANSA Space Science offer a free tour every Wednesday at 11am and it’s definitely worth a visit. The very professional guides take you through the work of SANSA, with a big focus on space weather and it’s interaction with Earth systems. Would recommend if you’re in the area!

If you are at all interested in Science then a visit SANSA is a must. Where else can you stare at huge plasma screens with real time images of our Sun (actually there are 17 such places in the world).
The primary function of SANSA is the forecasting of "space weather" This entails keeping a close eye on the activity of the Sun in all it's moods as this can have a serious implications for satellites, the power grid, aviation and military communications and even cellular comms. The SANSA center in Hermanus performs this forecast service for all of Africa and also tracks any objects passing in orbit above Africa (or crashing into it as the case may be).
Not sure about you but I find all this very cool! (...so I"m a bit of a nerd).
The staff at SANSA are your standard genius grade guys and gals, and answered my simple questions with a smile. So even if you not a genius you are bound to learn something with a visit.

This is one of 17 similar sites set throughout the world all monitoring the effects of radiation from the sun. Not the place for small/young children ( although they do have a room with inter-active models ) at the end of the tour.Open Wednesday mornings and telephone reservations are adviable.Mind blowing for those who are really interested.
