Small, locally run museum, entrance fee covers a photographic exhibition and the whale house. Very interesting.

It was only a few rand, but the display really needs updating. The staff were lovely and vert enthusiastic - like the kelp whale calling trumpet demonstration!

The Old Harbour museum was one of the two museums we visited in Hermanus. We did visit the museum about 8 years earlier. Have to admit that I was shocked to see that the chip anchor was missing. When I asked on the staff they told me it was stolen during the night a few months earlier. Other than that, the museum is value for money and gives you a great idea of how Hermanus was started. I do recommend this to first time visitors.

I found this museum really disappointing, it needs a lot of work and good spruce to make it attractive

Not a very big museum and more can be done to make it a bit more interesting. The history is quite interesting and I enjoyed the old photos.

Sadly the exhibits in the small museum need attention and they don't have the funds to do it. We spent about 10 minutes there as entrance to this museum was included in our 20 ZAR ticket for the Whaling Museum (which also included De Wet's Museum of photography). It had a small room with some whaling implements in it and another area closed off awaiting funds to sort the exhibit.

The place was dark, musty and not well ventilated. It was not welcoming at all. Although the fare of ZAR20 was not exorbitant, we didn’t think it was worth the limited time which we had.

Its a small little museum but tells the Age old Story of how Hermanus got to be. I found it quite enlightening and its a must when you visit.

Rather liked this mish mash of items stored / put on display to see. You have to poke about a bit to see everything - something was plonked in a hole in the floor I seem to remember!

Although the information regarding whales and fish species was quite interesting, there is not a lot to see and the whole experience only lasted about 25 minutes.
