For me, this is essential Cape Town and one of the most interesting parts of the city. This is partly because of the beautiful old buildings, partly the great bars and restaurants, and partly because of the shopping. I have visited Africa many times, and...More

As a local that was born and bred in Cape Town I will certainly recommend anyone walking along Long Street to be careful, use your common sense, and keep a look out. For example do not wear jewellery, pull out cash, or use any expensive...More

Long street, from the upper reaches at the inner city Lutheran Church has numerous historic and architecturally interesting buildings.

A relative had suggested we have dinner at long street, but we saw it during the day and it didn't feel safe at all, nor was it attractive. We heard that there were robberies and we were recommended not to go there at night.

Long Street is well known for its quirky architecture and its little shops. It was also known for its vibe. It was a favourite place to stroll and have a meal. However, of late there are too many unsavoury characters lurking about. This should be...More

We were happy with our short visit two years ago and returned for a longer visit to Cape Town - five days before catching a cruise ship home. What a change. On our first day we had an attempted daylight robbery on Long Street (of...More

Our rented car just broken into by the Obi Sushi restaurant on Long street. They stole our belongings. Beware! The parking attendants are useless.

A great street with a lot of vibrant offerings on it, i have been here a few times before and it is a hip place. Be careful at night though and I would recommend taking a uber/booked taxi for any journey up and down the...More

This street reminds me of Bourbon Street in New Orleans, LA. Like Bourbon Street, I don't really find the appeal. Lots of panhandlers and crowds can make it a tad tough to enjoy. While the shops on Long Street have some pretty cool things to...More

We visited this street during the day and found several restaurants, pubs and cafes which serve a range of delicacies. Some cafes also had musicians playing local instruments to entertain guests. You will get the best out of Long street if you enjoy the night...More

General rule of thumb, everything in CT closes at 7/8pm unless in the Waterfront. But long street bars and clubs are open till late.

Also agree with TravelfeetZA : i won't do shopping on this street. Keep a one hour walking to visit it and then have diner somewhere and some bar music. That's it! There is nothing special on this street for shopping.
