Anyone who knows anything about South African history would have seen the image of poor Hector being carried away from the Soweto massacre. The memorial is moving, and a tribute to those who died, and hopefully an inspiration to those in the "New" South Africa....More

Memorial warrants short visit; no need to spend a lot of time here. We didn't visit the museum due to time constraints

I expected this museum to be informative, since museums usually are. But the first-hand accounts of the Soweto uprising, and the context in which the uprising happened, bowled me over. This museum provides an important piece in the marvelously complex puzzle of South Africa.

If you go to the museum, stop by the memorial that's right nearby. Weather wasn't the greatest so I wasn't able to spend much time here.

Our students liked to take pictures at the park and shop with the vendors across the street. We didn't go into museum, but had a guide tell us about the square outside.

Standing at the memorial, silently looking at the picture, both my wife and I felt tears streaming down our faces. This simple but moving memorial to an innocent child should not be missed if you visit Soweto.

Hector himself (or at least his image) is of course so well known, but to learn more of his story and by implication that of so many other young children who endured apartheid, but also to read the words of the relatives (inscribed there), thrust...More
