About
The Eco Center Bora Bora is a sea turtle education and rehabilitation facility. The Center offers the public a chance to learn about sea turtles and see rehabilitation in action with a host of interactive exhibits and experiences. The mission of the Center is to conserve and protect all species of marine turtles, both in the water and on the beach. We accomplish this through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick and injured sea turtles; public education regarding threats of their extinction and research expedition on nesting ground.

We enjoyed visiting the Turtle Center but specially the hospital where sick turtles are treated for re-entry into their natural habitat. The young Marine Biologist woman was very nice and took time to explain everything to us. We commend her and her staff for what they are doing for the turtles in Bora Bora.

Teiva (sorry if spelling is incorrect) and his team live for these sick turtles and rehabilitate them back to the wild. It didn't matter how busy the team were and still took the time to answer questions and show us around. The team are very passionate and you can feel the love they have for the turtles. Make sure to purchase something in the shop as all proceeds help to care for these beautiful animals.

June 2021: Currently closed. Mainly due to Covid - lack of tourist money funding it. The whole of French Polynesia just opened May 1st - they really need us tourists. Please go! Such lovely people and wonderful natural beauty. If you like the color blue, you will love this island.

Our experience with the turtles was amazing! We got to go to the turtle hospital and ask questions, clean one of the sea turtle’s shells, hold a sea turtle, learn about the sea turtles, and swim with them. We also encountered other sea creatures like a puffer fish and eel. The marine biologist from Italy was so sweet and answered all of our questions. We were staying at Four Seasons Resort so our time at Meriden was limited, but overall it was a wonderful experience.

We loved our interaction with the Turtle program ! From the seminar to helping clean the turles and then swim with them in the enclosed lagoon. They are well taken care of and we learned a great deal. Staff are incredible and their gift shop is fabulous ! Support the turtles !!!

While they're doing some good and necessary work helping out injured sea turtles, I would say it's worth a visit if you're staying at the resort but not worth a trip out to the resort to see this. It's a 15 minute slide show then maybe 10 minutes in an indoor area with the five sea turtles where you(and 20 others)can throw some food into their tub. Some ate, some didn't. I'm glad the resort can help out with this and fund the turtle rehabilitation. That said, I'm very concerned about whether the turtles are continuously kept in those small plastic tubs. They are WAY too small(4')and the poor turtles can't even see over the top. If the turtles swim in the outdoor lagoon area it's fine. If they are left in these tubs this is cruel.
Take a look if you're there. If not, it's certainly not worth the expense to go there just for this.

My wife and I really wanted to visit the center and to do the "Healing Hour" with the turtles. We weren't staying at the Le Meridien, so had to coordinate with the hotel concierge the day before our visit to ensure there was space, as hotel guests have priority. Luckily, there was a slot open on the day we wanted to visit.
To get there, you need to take the hotel shuttle boat from Viatape (costs money). They will send a boat out for you, but we ended up taking an earlier regular shuttle boat over to check out the resort.
The Healing Hour consisted of 30 mins with the hurtles in the healing area, and 30 mins in the lagoon swimming with them (two of the seven resident turtles were in the water) and the many other aquatic animals therein. In our case, we were introduced to each of the turtles and told their stories. We were then able to clean the shell of a turtle and assist in giving an injection to another turtle. The staff were really nice and clearly enjoyed what they were doing.
As a turtle lover, this was a can't miss opportunity to spend time up close with some beautiful animals. It's worth mentioning that there is a daily feeding that you may also participate in every morning. It's free to guests and available to non-guests for a fee.

I love turtles, when I retire I want to work with a turtle rescue. The turtle centre is a great place to get up close and personal with recovering and previously injured turtles of French Polynesia. We are staying at a neighboring resort. We payed for the shuttle boat to and from. We also paid a fee to visit the centre,so worth it. I understand swimming with the turtles is booked about two weeks in advance. I am sure none of us have made a last minute trip to French Polynesia, so in the long process of planning a trip to Bora Bora put this on your list of places to visit. Tell your friends planning a trip. It’s for the ❤️ of Turtles.

We stayed at Le Meridien and went to visit the turtle sanctuary. The talk was very informative and the feeding of the turtles was cool to see turtles so close eating BUT the turtles are stuck in these blue tubs for hours and it isn’t great. It would be great to see another area built where they had more room to move around.

How much is the fee for private time with the turtles and also how much is the boat to get there?
Written April 30, 2019
If you are staying at le meridian it’s right on the resort. If you care coming from another resort the boat fee will vary but I’d guess about 1,500-2,500 xpf.
The private time with turtles is 30,000 per person, and it includes helping to care for the turtles and a 30- minute swim/snorkel with two turtles. Every day at 10:00am is a free educational session which tells a lot about the facility and the turtles and they let you feed the turtles.
