About
The guided bear tours consist of a 30-75 minute scenic flight to either Lake Clark or Katmai National Parks. We spend 3 hours walking through the park, where we guarantee you will see bears. You will be with your guide as you walk along the coast and see these magnificent animals. The pilot decides the location each day depending on the bear activity and weather.

Amazing, breathtaking experience. Chris, the pilot, made us feel very safe and comfortable not only in the plane but also at Lake Clark. He knew exactly where to go to see the bears and provided us with an incredible experience. He was very knowledgeable about Alaska and grizzly bears. Would highly recommend!

Best experience to get to see bears in their natural habitat. Chris was an excellent pilot (no bumps and sickness), caring and calm guide. I travelled to Alaska with the main purpose of seeing bears and J Bear Tours' guarantee made that happen. As a bonus, Chris also flew us over the glacier on our way back to Homer. I am so grateful and highly recommend this local family business.

All aspects of our trip were conducted in a professional way by this small family business. Chris flew us to Lake Clarke N.P. then guided us with another adult and two young boys. We were all excited by the mature female bear who came very close when showing her young family the best stream crossing. Chris was most careful to ensure we were safe and that the bears were not disturbed by our presence. He also provided many interesting facts about bears behaviour and their habitat. We walked at a leisurely and careful pace. The two young cubs gave particularly wonderful photo opportunities as well as other older bears all digging for clams as unfortunately the salmon were not plentiful along the sea shore.
We would recommend J Bear Tours to anyone wanting to experience close encounters within a safe environment by an experienced and caring wildlife expert.

This was hands down the best experience we had in Alaska. Chris was an amazing guide and went out of his way to make sure we got the best bear viewing opportunity. My husband and I had reasonable expectations, and this trip blew them out of the water. Bears were in our view from the moment we landed on the beach until we left. At one point I think we counted 9 bears (including 2 of the cutest bear cubs) all within photo view. We got to see males and females, baby cubs, bears fishing, bears eating in the grass, bears digging for clams. The pictures are amazing!!!! Chris and his family are really nice people to work with. I trusted him completely. He balanced safety with a great experience at all times, and he is really down to earth. We could not have asked for a better experience. I would choose them again in a heartbeat!

As we were planning our trip to Alaska our bucket list included seeing bears. All the trips to Katmai were really expensive and long. We found J Bear Tours and so glad we did! We had an awesome trip to Lake Clark, landed on the beach, hiked for miles, getting with 10 yards of many bears and there adorable cubs taking great pictures. Chris and Ashley were wonderful guiding us to how to view the bears safely and respecting their space. Katmai and Brooks Falls gets all the publicity but Lake Clark is incredible. Great company and highly recommend using them!

Wow!!! This trip far exceeded my expectations for bear watching! We were up close and personal with many bears, and spent over three hours observing them. Chris went above and beyond to give us a trip of a lifetime!

Our group of 5 had an unforgettable once in a lifetime experience. Both Chris and Ashley took care of us from start to finish. We saw about a dozen bears: a mom with cubs included. Chris was so knowledgeable about the bears and we felt safe with him the entire time. Viewing these animals in their habitat was incredible. From watching bears snack on grass in wildflower filled meadows, to a mom helping her cubs dig for clams on the beach, and big guys napping on a log. All with the beautiful majestic mountains of Lake Clark as a backdrop. The flight to and from the bear viewing was an experience in itself. Don’t miss out on this tour if you are traveling to Alaska.

Chris knew right where to take us where we could see two sets of baby cubs and they really put on a show for us! Wonderful flight and he was very knowledgeable about the area and the bears. He made a lot of great pics of the bears during our day and sent them to us, free. It was an awesome day and we would love to fly with him again!

This was great fun and my husband who is not so sure about being close to bears decided it was great too. Chris who was our guide and pilot did a great job in getting us to the bears and moving things along. While I use a professional camera, iPhones or similar are also great to use here as you are very close to the bears. The bears have learned that humans are not a threat and go about their business. I have been to Brooks Falls and while that was a great trip, I think seeing the bears on this tour was equalling rewarding and somewhat better due to the open surroundings and ability to see the bears so close. I particularly enjoyed watching the bears clam and would do this trip again and again. Thanks also to Ashley, the other half of the team for getting us to and from the plane plus other logistics. Great time enjoyed by my husband and myself.

This was a truly amazing experience! Chris went above and beyond to ensure we experienced everything the website promises and more. The flight back and forth to Lake Clark National Park was smooth, with stunning views. (And I don't like to fly.) We spent close to 4 hours observing several adult grizzlies and two sets of cubs, which were adorable. We even saw a mother nursing two cubs! An amazingly beautiful setting. It was a wondrous and awe-filled adventure.
