This is a VERY expensive 1/2 day, so we were very careful in picking a flight. I weigh 250 pounds and had to speak with Trent personally in order to get a flight waiver to go, which spoke volumes about him as a pilot and air safety. I am a high-time pilot myself, and I know an expert pilot when I fly with he or she -- Trent is that!
We had a very pleasant flight out to the park from Homer airport. Climbed out to about 7,000 to get out of the haze and rougher chop (it was smooth today, but something to be aware of if you suffer from motion sickness). We literally hit a 40 knot headwind at one point and had to make a quick flight change, which Trent did flawlessly
Once on the ground, Trent KNOWS where to find the bears. We scouted 8 or 9 total brown bears -- Mommas, cubs, Big Males, etc. You need to be prepared to have some patience, and also to walk a good deal through the muck (hip waders provided at no extra charge), brush and tidal soup if you want to get closs. How close is close? Trent took us to within 40 yards or so of this mamoth female who was fishing along the shore. Got some amazing close up photos, and we never thought we'd get this close to a Grizzly Bear! Close enough to hear them spar-fight, grunt, huff-huff, and yowl at one another. Trent was not afraid to ix his patience with his knowledge. We loaded up the plane and move three times during the trip, then chased the bears on foot a well, but we got all of the shots we came for.
Very nice flight back home, and my wife and the other two folks in the back seats fell asleep.
We VERY highly recommend this trip. One off the buckt list -- Thank You Trent!!!
