My favorite cafe in the area; I would go every day if I could! Great spot off the side of the road with amazing mochas, teas, chocolate bars, and pastries. All their ingredients seem really high quality, and they have a truly lovely staff as well. On our way out of town we got lunch to go, and it was fantastic. Try it all.

    Very enjoyable
We had the best time. The coffee (and muffin) we're delicious, best we've had so far in CR. We did the tour with Dexter and he really knows his stuff! Very informative and so much chocolate, plus some fantastic views. We really enjoyed it all, thank you!

    💛☕️💛 Great coffees and breakfast!
We came to this place EVERY morning for coffee drinks and breakfast! Couldn’t steer ourselves away. Huevas Rancheros, chocolate banana muffins, mochachino frio, EVERYTHING was superb! Ladies behind the counter were genuinely friendly and gracious. 😊💛☕️

iced chocolate and coffee yes, but those muffins are delicious!
It's a shame we didn't get to do the tour as I think it would have been worth it. We only had time for a coffee and snack as we were walking back to our hotel in Puerto Viejo from the Jaguar Sanctuary Center. Both iced coffee and iced chocolate were really good but what was amazing was the banana and chocolate huge muffing we got, which was delicious!

    Such a sweet find!
Such a delicious and fun sweet spot! We enjoyed the tour and spending time at Caribeans chatting with the staff. My girls said they made the very best vanilla iced lattes! Oscar was our patient and funny guide. The tour was a nature walk up the mountain ( not too strenuous) to the most beautiful view and amazing lesson on history, production and tasting! Highly recommend!

We walked up on a Saturday at about 9:45 and took the tour. Our guide Oscar was immensely knowledgable and just plain old a lot of fun to spend time with. It's a easy hike up the hill to their production facility, where he walked us through all the steps of making chocolate in the artisanal, small batch way. We tasted the beans at every stage, and then had a number of different chocolates to compare at the end. I'd go again if I could.

This was our gem of a find! We don’t recall this being there in our previous trips.

We had spent the morning on a tour with some lovely folks from the UK who were also staying at the same guesthouse as us. When we were finished, we told them we had not eaten breakfast yet, needed a coffee at least and suggested we do this together. They suggested Caribbeans, having been there previously.

It is a really cute place. You can do a “chocolate tour” through them if you so desire. They have a climate-controlled room with a variety of expensive chocolates you can purchase (and we did) and they have a coffee shop that serves up amazing coffee and we each had an omelette and banana/chocolate muffin as well. The omelettes were amazing, delicious and filling. The muffins were a very special treat. The combination of the fresh banana and hand made chocolate is indescribable and the best I’ve ever eaten. Equally, the coffee was full bodied, aromatic and “good to the last drop”! We sat in the open second floor to enjoy the breeze and the view.

The owner makes his way through both levels chatting with the patrons to ensure we are enjoying the offerings we’ve chosen and that we’re enjoying our time in Costa Rica. The fellow who is behind the counter taking orders on the main level is delightful, a little shy but once you get him chatting he is wonderful. He was great at helping us understand the differences in the chocolate … they all list percentages of cacao in them and it’s not always easy to understand what that means when it comes to taste. He cleared that up in no time while we spent US$40 on four bars of chocolate … large bars of course … some of which are gifts.

We liked this place so much that we went back for breakfast on New Year’s Day. Sadly, it was closed so we missed out on a second visit. That said, we highly recommend this place.

A great way to spend a few hours hiking up to see how chocolate is grown, harvested, treated and made. They do it all! Our guide was entertaining even pointing out many animals along the way. We got to taste test various chocolates, drink a favorite that Montezuma used to fancy (minus the blood) and take home some chocolate from the store at the end. The views were spectacular and the price was just right! WAY better than Hershey's!

Very cool tour from a very knowledgeable guide, Andrea, who has skin in the game! Co-owner and restorer of former cacao plantation in process of changing the cacao game in Costa Rica. I had no idea terroir also made a huge difference in chocolate as well as wine. Fascinating and as good as, if not better, than anything else in the area...and no false advertising. Don't leave the area without making a visit and taking the tour!

Paul from Minnesota has created quite the business model for this company. They have helped reestablish local cocoa farms and are invigorating the economy there while also making it ecologically sound. Dexter was a great local/native tour guide, and the chocolate sampling was divine.

Our guide took us through the entire process of making chocolate from selecting the right cacao pods to tempering.

Our tour started in the jungle and a mini nature tour. We walked to the facility at the top of the farm and got to understand each step on the process and taste everything along the way - from the raw cocoa bean to the roasted bean to the finished product; and we got to sample many varieties of their chocolate.

Our guide was knowledgeable and open to all questions and spoke both in English and Spanish.

Even after having done other chocolate tours this one is still very interesting and worth doing. Here you see how the bean is made to chocolate bar at the very same place.
Absolutely great guide (spanish and english speaking) and yes - yummy chocolate as well

We had some time to spare due to our flight being canceled, so we decided to sign up last minute for this coffee and chocolate tour. Wow, did we luck out! The coffee shop itself is low key, cool vibe, hut-like. The tour when we went was lead by the actual owner, an American expat, pretty cool/interesting/funny human being. He walks you through the cacao farm with delicious samples along the way. You do have to walk up steep hills for part of it, so if you're not in good shape or have health problems be aware of this. but if you can make it, the view at the top is sooo worth it. One of the most gorgeous views of the Caribbean coast you could find.

Excellent coffee drinks as well as chocolate drinks, both hot and cold. Sipping chocolate, cocoa. Chocolate tasting was fantastic. We also did their chocolate tour with guide Dexter. Beautiful hike, saw the process of producing chocolate by hand. Then an incredible chocolate tasting at the end. Their chocolate is phenomenal. We ended up buying 15 bars to bring home

This tour was extremely enjoyable and so informative! Our tour guide, Danielle was wonderful, showing us all the amazing wildlife and flora on the short hike up to the chocolate factory. We learned so much, not just about the chocolate making process, but about the area in general and the importance of making sustainability an integral part of the process. Really highly rated, a must do with Danielle if you are in the area and the chocolate was delicious!
