Highly recommended, even for people who are afraid of spiders ;)
The night hike with Chris was brilliant! He is a nice guy who loves his work and knows a thing or two about it. He told us how to find the animals and we were even allowed to hold a small snake. In addition to all the animals, we learned a lot of interesting things about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica. The tour lasted around 3 hours and was worth every second.

    Absolutely worth it
One of our absolute highlights in Costa Rica. Chris is so authentic, knows the answer to everything and brought us closer to the animal world. We saw a snake, a scorpion and of course some spiders. We can recommend it 100%.

3 absolutely exciting hours on the jungle path!
You only need three things: long trousers, a good flashlight, a camera or smartphone and off you go with Chris. We see the first animals: frogs, lizards, butterflies, the first snake, non-venomous we can touch it, the next snake, highly poisonous, spiders, poisonous and non-venomous, lots of tarantulas... Chris has a lot to say about all the animals and plants, draws a connection and shows the connections in nature between fauna and flora. Very exciting, entertaining, funny, motivating to see and find animals yourself and to discuss them in the group. We really appreciated that Chris helped us with the photography, whether it was with the right lighting or with the close-ups of the tricky animals. Highly recommended!

    Super night jungle tour
We booked the night tour even though I'm not a fan of spiders. The 3-hour tour was super informative and interesting. Chris explains everything really well and gives everyone time to take their photos and is happy to help so that you get a great photo of every animal. He keeps the group small, max. 7 people, there were only five of us! You can tell straight away that he loves his night tours and reptiles. After the tour, I see the spiders much more relaxed and am so happy to have done this tour with him. I can only recommend Chris to everyone.

    Incredible night hike with Chris
We had the pleasure of going on a night hike with Chris from The Tarantula Way and it was absolutely amazing! Not only is Chris extremely knowledgeable, but he is also passionate and dedicated to providing his guests with an unforgettable experience. During the hike, we were able to gather a lot of fascinating information about tarantulas, snakes, and the national frog of Costa Rica. Chris was patient and answered all of our questions with great expertise. His love of nature and wildlife was infectious and made the tour a real highlight of our trip. In addition, Chris helped us take some super photos of the animals we saw during the hike. His ability to find the animals and put us in the best possible position for great shots was impressive. I highly recommend Chris from The Tarantula Way if you are looking for an unforgettable experience in Costa Rica. Thank you Chris for this unforgettable adventure!

Absolute highlight of the Cahuita stay
With his extensive experience and knowledge of the flora and fauna of Costa Rica, Chris made the night hike an absolute highlight of our Costa Rica stay. Within 2-3 hours we saw so many different animals in their natural environment that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible to see. Absolutely recommended!

We had an excellent tour with Chris and his brother who helped finding animals in the night. Not only we saw a wide diversity of frogs, spiders (incl. big tarentulas), snakes, stick insects… but most important Chris shared his passion, detailled information on Costa Rica diversity, even about trees. Chris took also care of our security and was very respectful when I was a bit afraid. He made for us first class pictures of the animals(see in this review). We were very lucky, some other guides made a quick easy tour with up to 13 people… be careful to choose the right contact as « Tarentula way » is also used by myguide but that’s not the same.

Chris lives his job. We would like to thank him again for this 3-hour night hike. This was our 3rd time in Costa Rica and we did a lot of tours there. This was one of the highlights. Chris, an Austrian, was able to show us some animals on the night hike that we would never have seen on our own. We saw everything from snakes, frogs, scorpions and spiders to all kinds of butterflies (which were dormant at night). Not only did Chris show us these animals, he was also able to tell us a lot about their habitat and their behavior. He also answered our questions, which made this tour so exciting. With the patience of an angel, he also made sure that each participant got their unforgettable photo and even gave tips and help. We can recommend this hike, which starts shortly after dark, as a MUST for everyone. The route is not very long because there is something to see every meter along the way. It is also very suitable for children. We would definitely do it again if we were to stay again. Thank you for the 3 entertaining hours!
What we really need to get off our chest is that this guide, Chris, doesn't just do his job. We stayed in Cahuita for several days and also went for a walk around the town. He came up to us out of nowhere several times and greeted us with a friendly handshake. What I'm trying to say is that he not only sees the money he earns, but doesn't forget his clients even days later, a really great guy

We absolutely loved this tour. There was no rush and we got amazing photos of all the animals sighted, half of which Chris volunteered to climb into the scrub to get for us! Virtually with every step there was something extremely interesting, and Chris always had something informative and accurate to say about them.
Chris actually was so brilliant and set such high standards that it meant that all the other night tours we went on in the other parts of the country miserably failed to meet our expectations.

100% definitely recommend!!!

I m a nature enthousiast and already familiar with many species (of my country), although, it is to be expected that I m no expert in Costa Rican fauna. Luckily Chris is.

What's more, is that I could tell he really strived for us to spot as many animals possible and we did saw a good variety and I had the chance to take some decent photos.

Since most of the nightwalk is conducted in a road adjustent to the Cahuita NP, you are almost guaranteed to see many animals. After few minutes into the walk, it became obvious to me why he named it 'Tarantula's Way' - there are dozens of nests of the infamous arachnid. Since this is an animal extremely sensitive to vibrations, you ll need to be really light-footed and with a bit of luck you can get a closer look. The whole atmosphere is great and this is something that everyone should have a go at; not just naturallists! Just remember to wear proper shoes, as it tends to get quite muddy. I would also recommend long sleeves+trousers, although on the night I went there, we didn't have a mosquito problem

I m very happy I did the nightwalk with Chris and next time I ll visit Cahuita, I ll ask for his help again, for spotting a Bothrops asper, which has long been on my list now

Awesome tour! I second all the raving reviews. Chris is truly passionate and knowledgeable - not just about spiders and snakes - but nature in general, and knows how to share his passion. His walk is super interesting and will create lasting memories. He can spot the tiniest spiders from meters away and helped us spot numerous snakes, spiders, birds and insects as well. But not just that: He also allowed our son to get close and even hold/touch some of them. Of course he was in heaven!
Contact over WhatsApp was very swift and easy and we were able to arrange a last minute tour for our son’s birthday within a matter of hours. Thanks for an unforgettable experience!

The night tour with Chris was a highlight! With so much dedication, huge expertise, wonderful humor, he showed us so many animals and took so much time. On our journey through CR we already saw a lot - but he still brought us a lot of animals closer. Wow! The tour is very personal and Chris impresses with his huge expertise.

Chris and Markus are great guides. Chris knows an incredible amount about animals and plants! There were five of us. Our little one is 4! They were so great at dealing with our children and took away any concern about spiders. We were 2.5h on the road about and saw fantastic animals! Chris can also take fantastic pictures! We saw bullfrogs, bird spiders, venomous snakes, scorpions, non-venomous snakes (with touch), a possum, moths, the national frog...and and and! It was fantastic and entertaining! In addition, it was so cheap for 2.5 h and two guides! Thank you very much! 10 stars! I am very happy to go home! All of us!

Chris was awesome, he not only showed us so many amazing nocturnal creatures but he also has a wonderful sense of humor. It’s clear that this is a passion for Chris, and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. This was one of our favorite experiences. You must take this tour when visiting Cahuita!

Wow - what an experience 🤩 spiders, scorpions, snakes, frogs, grasshoppers - to look at everything up close. With the help of Chris, we were even able to take brilliant macro shots with our mobile phone. Chris shared his immense knowledge of flora and fauna with us in a very entertaining way, so the squad was not only worth seeing, but also very entertaining and informative. Can’t do better, so fully deserved five stars 🌟

Chris is an amazingly enthusiastic guide! He connected with our sons right away and was able to provide a great setting to explore this beautiful part of the world while sharing his enthusiasm for each little detail along the way. We felt safe at every moment and got to see many more animals than we expected - and Chris always took the time to make sure we snapped a photo -- thanks so much!
