The Communist government of China thought it was a good idea to put up a large obelisk monument to honor their revolution at the far end of the Bund. It’s nice to see at night as you need to traverse most of the Bund to...More

The monument, a simple concrete structure rising some 80 feet, stands at the north end of the riverside Bund. Built 25 years ago, the tribute to heroes is in the shape of three rifles leaning against each other, meeting at the top. At night, the...More

The monument itself is a rather simple structure, but if you take the ramp down, you will see a wall of carvings outlining the history of this area. Then, if you walk into the entrance directly below the structure, you will see an underground area...More

Located on the Bund, this structure and its ambience tell us the history of Shanghai. Two pointed and huge concrete pillars are the main attraction. Looks mote impressive in the night with light effects.

The concrete monument itself is not that impressive - more of a modern carbuncle than a spectacle. However, when you walk right up to the monument, an underground pit is revealed, housing a simple but decent summary of the city's development and the people who...More

The bridge might be of special interest to the locals but for foreigners it is a rather ordinary monument overshadowed by the impressive background of the Pudong buildings !

Interesting monument and nod to the country's socialist struggle. The hero's monument is imposing and striking, standing at the north end of the Bund. But it is easily overshadowed by the mind-blowing skyline of Pudong. Part of the Bund scene!

The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the
world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous
waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts
monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai
International Settlement run by the British and
Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has
endured over time and is now found in the five-star
hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive
