GPS directions tell you how to drive across the dam but not how to get to the recreational area, viewing area and water falls. There is a blue sign pointing to the recreational area but it is faded and hard to read. Coming from Tuscumbia,...More

Always beautiful scenery by the dam. TVA trails are a must anytime we're in the area. We hiked the rockpile trail on a misty morning which overlooks the river. The dam was in full swing which is neat to watch.

If you can time it right, stop by the Wilson Lock and watch a barge go through. It happens multiple times a day usually and its a great engineering example of the use of water to move a barge up and down the river.

Had a wonderful time here with the family. Great views and historical significance! This dam is a part of the TVA system and a must see as you travel through Alabama.

Due to security, I could not find any place to view the lock/channel. It seems that the best place to view the dam and lock is the rotating restaurant at the nearby Marriott.

Some nice views of the Tennessee river and Wilson dam, good walking area, picnicking and just relaxing. Some interesting notes on the history of the TVA Projects and CCC.

There was a great tour when I went thru on a school field trip in 1956. Now they are about monthly ( next one of Wilson Dam is July 27, 2018 at 10 am). Bring ID and no bad things (or warrants). Google Tours of Florence... More
