I don’t even know where to start.

Every hole was under some kind of construction. Trees were being taken down everywhere and the sawing, ground crews, etc was ANNOYING.

Course conditions were the worst in memory. Greens were in VERY poor condition, bunkers looked they weren’t maintained, and general condition was more like a muni than a resort course.

Cart girls yelled during backswings, “Ya’ll need anything?!?!?” Why not just wait until folks have hit their shots to ask, quietly?

Overall, very disappointing for an RTJ TRAIL COURSE.

We came on the first of February. Clearly the winter or dormant season. Still, there were lots of golfers out. We chose the Crossings Course. It was not too challenging for newer golfers. Plus, there are 6 tee boxes so you can select a yardage that is reasonable. All of the course staff from the moment we arrived at the bag drop were so friendly. Marshall's would roll up, seemingly just to chat, learn where we were from. We really enjoyed our round of golf. Don't forget to ask for AAA or military discounts. Really extensive proshop to get souvenirs of the round or clothing. A great experience.

I live in Mobile, have a RTJ Trail Card, play here often, and will continue to play here, but some shortfalls need to be addressed.

Recently there seems to be no one paying any attention at bag drop. Either there is no help or they seem to be very busy on their phones rather than doing the job. Both at dropoff and after the round. Most days I wind up just carrying my own bags onto and off the carts, never mind having anyone offer to clean clubs at the end of the round. Most often I'm just ignored. Any relatively upscale course should provide this service.

Rest rooms on the Falls are dirty and some of the toilets don't flush properly.

The bunkers are not attended to on a daily basis. Recently some have looked like they haven't been raked in days!

Currently they are in the process of removing over 9,000, YES 9000! mature trees all around 3 courses. Apparently one man decided that HE wanted it to be more open and a week later the saws were out. They are working on all three simultaneously and creating occasionally dangerous conditions during play. Every hole looks like the one I picture here. I get that occasional tree trimming and removal are necessary parts of golf course maintenance but I don't understand why that much habitat had to be destroyed and why does Magnolia Grove need to change from a Woodlands course to a Parklands style course?!?

On the plus side:
Staff in the Pro Shop are always pleasant and helpful.

The Marshalls and Beverage cart people are also always pleasant.

The golf courses themselves are in excellent shape, challenging and fair.

TIP! If you live in Ala. or within 100 miles of any of the RTJ Trail courses and plan to play more than one, BUY THE TRAIL CARD! It more than pays for itself after just 1 round.

The course is laid out very nicely as each hole is its own and you rarely will have players from other holes hitting on to your fairway as they don’t go back and forth to one another like many public courses. It was very peaceful play.

We played in November (winter season rates) and the course and greens were still in pretty good shape. We played both 18s and the par 3 course a few times.

All staff were very friendly and welcoming. They food at the 19th hole was fantastic. I’m not sure why the course doesn’t advertise their bar/restaurant or clubhouse online. They have a large wrap around patio overlooking the course with plenty of outdoor seating for those beautiful blue sky Alabama days!

The one thing that made the course less enjoyable to play was that the greens crew puts the holes in nearly unplayable locations on the greens.

I’m fine with a challenging pin placement to hit at, but placing the holes on a slope where balls consistently would roll 25ft past was a joke. Even when putting up hill and lagging just past the hole on several occasions, the ball would roll all the way backwards and past where you began the putt. It was like you were on a silly putt putt course.

Booked 7 days in advance, did not know about recently sanded greens and cart path only. Staff could have been more friendly. For the money($104), I will probably NOT play there again.

My 16 year-old son and I went on a 10-day road trip from New Orleans. We golfed at Grand Bear, Kiva Dunes and Magnolia Grove. All were great. But Magnolia Grove was the best. We played all 3 courses (Crossings, Falls and the Shorty) for @ $200. Service was great, staff was wonderful, food was terrific (great prices, too). The clubhouse is beautiful.

This was a marathon day of golf. We teed off on the Crossings at 7 am and finished before 11. We had a lovely lunch in the clubhouse before teeing off on the Falls at noon. We finished at 3:45 and then played the Short Course and were done b4 6pm.

We arrived two days after 4 days of heavy rain. Carts were 90 degrees but the courses were in great shape and were drying out fast. No plugging. A few traps with standing water but the fairways were not soggy. All day we were like kings playing our private courses: we were never pushed, never waited, and barely saw another golfer.

Great golf. Great people. An epic and memorable day.

Great experience as all the RTJ courses are. Some are better than others but they all challenge your game. We played the 18 hole short course as well as the regular course. The courses were in great shape, the staff was professional and the clubhouse/restaurant were typical RTJ designed. Prices are good and they even have ladies clothes. The vistas are beautiful. Perfect day of golf

We arrive at the course for our scramble. Everyone was very accommodating. I rented clubs at the course, and they included some golf balls. Ordered a breakfast sandwich....it was huge and delicious. The course was in great shape, and very interesting to play. I am not a great golfer, so I enjoyed the open fairways...lost only one ball in 18 holes!.

We are 2 golfing couples who have golfed together for many years. The course was in great shape and the weather was warm and sunny, but not unbearably hot. Nice breezes. The course was very well maintained and staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend the pocket sandwiches from the beer cart. The pace was excellent. Rolling fairways with just a few water hazards which will get you if you don't respect them. Over all a beautiful, challenging course.

Loved our time here with a college tournament. The staff was excellent and the course was beautiful. They worked hard for us the few days we were there. The food is also EXCELLENT!
