I visited in 2017. One of the must visit place in South India. I am sure this is one of the Architectural Wonder in India.
somnathpur temple is at around 40km from Mysore. The whole temple was built according to Hoysala architecture using stones.
What is there to say. Its an old historic temple that one can still get up close to its incredible detailed carvings that with the guides explanations gave it reference and meaning.
Away from City & close to Somanathapura Beach. Very quite place to visit in the evening. Must visit place
Worth the hours drive from Mysor . It’s a historic temple that is dedicated to Vishnu but no longer used with superb carvings from the 13th century . It’s probably worth getting a guide to understand and point out the different carvings
Fascinating old temple, and not too over-touristed. A good guide will help you to make sense of the myriad carvings and the stories they tell
It's worth hiring a guide to pick out the most interesting and illustrative of the myriad, intricate sculptural carvings decorating this outstanding old temple. It's popular, but not over touristed, and remains one of the highlights of our recent tour.
It is a 750 year old temple, all carved in stone. A must visit for cultural tourists with an eye for detail. A forgotten legend. We would not be able to do the same in clay ... imagine doing it in stone!
