“The best part of the town with great views”
Destroyed several times in the devastating earthquakes and battles, and finally tumbled into the sea by the catastrophic earthquake in 1979, today only the ruins of the walls remind of its presence. It is also known under the name Mezaluna, built on...more

At the top of the town and overlooking it, the fortress gives great views over the bay and the town. Admission in June 2018 was just 2 euro, which I think is good value. Lots of ramparts to walk around. A bonus is that there...More

This was for me the highlight of my visit to a town that was otherwise if I am honest rather uninspiring. The Citadel can be accessed via either the main road near the bus station or via the Old Town. Others have mentioned uneven steps...More

Visited in the afternoon and the view is fantastic. The theatre here would be a great place to see a play with the sun setting in the background. The entrance from the old town has some uneven steps.

My husband and I visited the Citadel whilst exploring Herceg Novi. As mentioned previously, not a great deal to see in the Citadel but excellent views. We thought the entrance fee was too much and should be no more than a couple of Euros each...More

From the main road skirting around Herceg Novi you'd probably wonder what there is to see here. However, it is definitely worth a stop off to find and explore the little historical nugget of the old town (Stari Grad). You can walk around the fortress...More

Astonishing view of the Bay of Kotor and nothing more actually. I also recommend visiting the old town below, but there's nothing more interesting in Herceg Novi. There's a private parking near the top entrance.

We really enjoyed the walk around the fortress. There is an amazing view over the bay and the old city. Nice narrow streets of the old town lead upwards with a few charming squares on the way to the top.
