This museum features a surprisingly diverse collection of contemporary art from the past hundred years or so. They’ve divided the collection into Yugoslav artists and Montenegrin artists.

The collection is really impressive and large, and if you’re an art lover you should plan to spend a couple of hours here.

I went here as part of a combined ticket for all the museums in Cetinje.
The staff there seemed still to have a communist idea of service - or lack of it.
However, despite that I enjoyed the art gallery tremendously. I think I spent at least an hour there and could have spent far longer had I had more time.
There are no internationally known artists there, but some local artists have imitated Magritte and Dali and I found that fascinating.
I could even understand quite a lot of the modern art there!

The city itself has a different spirit and is one of my favourite sites in the country. This museum is one of the museums you can visit with the joint ticket for 10 Euros. You must spare enough time for this museum as each single piece of art deserves this. I am not an art specialist but I enjoy it a lot each time I visit it. The cronological order of the artworks take you through a journey in time.

It is interesting to see the local versions of various major art movements in the late 19th and the 20th century. The famous icon is kept in a very dark room and it is barely visible.

I knew very little about modern art from this region but I found this museum to be really interesting and full of engaging pieces. I very much enjoyed it.

On the second floor of the National Museum, the Art Museum is very good. A great exhibit of candid photos of the Montenegrin Royal family taken late 1800s by a royal princess. After that, Yugoslav and Montenegrin classic art, a fabulous icon of Our Lady of Phileremo, and Modern and Contemporary artists. It was a treat and we really enjoyed it. It's bigger than it looks.

Don't miss this fantastic museum with a giant collection from classic Yugoslav and Montenegrin fine arts.paintings up to excellent and cool contemporary installations, prints and paintings of montengro and Serbia,. Its a must for art lovers ! We were the only visitors and were not allowed to photograph as the nice woman in charge told us. She just brought us to the wing on the first floor which went in chronological order and according to art periods, starting from old masterpieces up to crazy colorful modern art and we walked around in the large space alone. Take your time and plan enough time for the museum, the collection is large and you will enjoy the selection.

The art museum is on the second floor of the National Museum of Montenegro and is included on the Museum Ticket you can purchase at any of the participating museums.

Excellent collection of art from religious to contemporary. We really enjoyed this museum. We were the only visitors on a Sunday afternoon (perhaps everyone else was outside enjoying coffee) but we saw some unexpectedly good art from many 20th century artists. I am really glad we went!

People that work there say that there are painting from painters from all over the balkans, but 95% of the paintings are from domestic painters born in Cetinje. The painting are really nothing special, if you are not and artistic freak, you should probably go somewhere else, this is not for you.
