Maligcong wasn't initially on our radar as we planned to visit Banaue and Batad rice terraces after Sagada. However a last minute change in plans meant we ended up spending a night in Maligcong and it turned out to be a great decision.
As we were coming from Sagada, we took the jeepney to Bontoc which takes about 30 minutes (80P) and is fairly regular. After reaching Bontoc and finding out where the Maligcong jeepney leaves from, we found out the the first jeepney of the day had already left and we had to wait until the next one fills up which could take hours. I'm our case it took about 90 minutes, not because it filled up but because they were loading cement and tiles in it. This meant that we got to sit on top of the Jeepney as we made our way up the steep slope to Maligcong. (FYI the jeepney is you best way to reach Maligcong as most tricycles will not go because of the gradient and the rare ones that do will charge you a crazy amount for the short trip.) The jeepney was 40P per head.

We arranged our accommodation with Rowena's Homestay for 400P per person which was a very homely atmosphere and good company. All the homestay are concentrated in the same area so it doesn't really matter which one you end up staying at as they are all within 1-5mins walk to the rice terraces.

The rice terraces itself are beautiful and free to explore on your own. Once you walk to the end of the road and find the beginning of the path(ask around if you're unsure).,the trail is easy to follow and self explanatory. Try and walk across the rice fields to where the Elementary school is as it gives you a good view of both sides while also being at a height.

If you feel upto it and want to climb Mt Kupapey at sunrise, get a guide (like we did for 500P all up). Thought is all uphill it's not hard if you've hiked before or used to walking. It took us 45 minutes one way, though I would recommend keeping a buffer of 1 - 1.5 hour. The guides usually start at 4 am. This is also a great spot to see the Maligcong Rice Terraces from up high.

There is cellphone coverage in Maligcong though it is patchy. I found that Globe can be accessed in the village while Smart only works when you're on the rice Terraces.

Maligcong is an adventurous and secluded (for the most part) location to enjoy the rice terraces. If you have time in the Area, it should be on your list.

Maligcong is the best place to unwind, chill and relax. Rice terraces can be viewed at the roof top of Chen's Maligcong Homestay. Have some coffee while viewing the sunrise, sea of clouds and mountain viewing in the middle of the day. Chen's Maligcong Homestay can also offer you a guide to Mount Kupapey, Mount Fato/Parutan, Mount Mogao or walking along the terraced rice paddies going to the Favarey village.

Definitely amazing! You don't just get to go to a viewing deck and take a picture, you get to actually BE IN the terraces themselves! if you want to help plant or harvest, all you need to do is ask the farmers there!

My family and i had the best experience visiting the beautiful rice terraces at Maligcong. We stayed at Dong Elays Homestay and we are thankful for our very accommodating hostess Denia who is always smiling and prepared very good healthy food. Waking up with a scene of sea of clouds and ring of clouds in the sky, is such a blessings for us to experience for 2 days. Travelling from south to north is worth it, no regrets even the long and winding road to drive, a bit scary for the first timer, yet it is an awesome experience. I still would like to go back there if given a chance again.

My friends and i had the best experience visiting the rice terraces at maligcong. We stayed at dong elays homestay-.+639353131724.It homey and cozy. All our basic needs are provided. Ate was very accomodating. All our requests were met with a smile and more than what we expected. We didn't see the terraces in its greeny glory so will definitely come back.

This could not be popular but the hidden beauty is for anyone who strive to search for it.

Yes we did took a guide to bring us to this wonderful spot. Our idea is since we're here much better to get the full understanding of the Cordilleras and a hands on experience once in a lifetime.
