Visiting Papua New Guinea is not complete without visiting the famous markets. Mt. Hagen Market is one of the bigger ones and offers fresh fruits, vegetables, handcrafted good like bilums and much more. Try to chat with the locals. This is a really nice experience and sometimes you will receive some extra portion od veggies or fruits for free. Do... More

If in Mount Hagen, a trip around the market is a must. You will see all sorts of wonderful fruit and vegetables, as well as live stock. They even sell cooked or uncooked eggs! Everyone will want to shake hands with you and exchange a few words with you. A very interesting place to see how the locals purchase and... More

What a one of a kind experience!! Such unique veggies and fruits for sale, although be careful to sample unwashed fruits! My traveling companion got very ill with ecoli after a taste of raw cut fruit! Otherwise the beautiful people here are a treasure! I feel so connected to them maybe from ancient lifetimes ago.

Shop with a friend who knows the area and perhaps some of the language. The markets are a daily/weekly experience for most local people. The wide variety of fresh produce is beautifully displayed and an excellent price. You are able to purchase locally made meri blouses and bilams as well as experience the high level sensory experience that many markets... More

Mt. Hagen Market shopping was very unique, delightful, yet nerve wracking. Marketing Ladies and people were very friendly, as most all of PNG is, by the way. I'm happy to have been able to purchase some very nice clothes for family and some memorabilia for future reference. Thanks for the friendly service, Mt. Hagen Market. RPerry.

The hagen market boosts wide variety of fruits and vegetables which is available at a affordable rate than the Port Moresby. Most of the people tend to purchase it from there while leaving to Port Moresby.

Called in here unexpectedly to "have a look" and it was pretty interesting. The vendors were all friendly and were keen to show off their produce and have their photographs taken. There was an amazing array of fresh fruit and vegetables bundled up for sale and the market was huge. It took us longer than expected to leave after exchanging... More

I had business in Port Moresby and decided to fly to Goroka and see the highlands. A friend suggested the Mount Hagen Market and it turned out to be great tip. There were men with spears and colorful paint all over who looked scary but turned out to be friendly. Lots of men's button-up-the front colorful shirts for sale at... More
