My wife and I stopped at a local restaurant with spectacular views of Mount Batur, which is the second largest volcano in Indonesia. Batur is 1,717 meters above sea level, and yes, it is still active. The most recent eruption was in 2004, before that was 1994, and the largest eruption to date was in 1963.  We enjoyed a traditional... More

There's a few different ways to go about climbing Mount Batur. We opted to stay near the base of the volcano and have a private guide take us up. It was more costly, but totally worth it! We took a route on the east side, which had two different paths- easier and longer, or shorter and harder. We went for... More

It all depends on what's your level activity, either you can do some tracking or just contemplating, the nature will surround you and make you remember that cities are not this word.

Not an easy trek but soooo worth the stunning sunrise experience and beautiful view on top of the world. We were lucky that the weather was perfect so we could see the almighty Agung as well as Mount Rinjani and lake Batur of course. Just wowww!

This sleeping volcano lies in a flatland surrounded by cliffs. There are quite a few restaurants here offering magnificent views of the grand mountaintop. The atmosphere is quite chilly and cloudy here no matter how sunny or tropical it is in Bali. It gives you a feel as if you are hearing the silence before the thunderstorm. Be sure to... More

You have to hike early morning to reach the summit to enjoy the sunrise. It takes about solid 2 hours of hiking and you need to be prepared physically to go all the way up. Recommend to have a guide with you to help you ascend and descend the volcano. Very nice view up top and you can see the... More

We were lucky as we were here on a tour with Rovernuts Indonesia, who drove their Land Rovers through this beautiful Geopark which had Black Lava Sand and was absolutely interesting especially as Mount Batur which is still considered active! This area has rich elements of macro and micro volcanic. It was definitely an unforgettable experience!

I have had a hike at night to see the sunrise. Unfortunately, it was cloudy. Next time I would prefer to go later and walked around the entire volcano - it's worth the effort. On a night hike with a headlamp is a huge number of tourists. It is in a row one after another. You can not choose your... More

Going up a volcano for sunrise is a very hyped activity in Ubud and Mount Batur is a relatively easy trek/climb for the inexperienced. But in my opinion it doesn't really live up the hype and the 350,000IDR for the guide (don't try to do it alone, as explained in other reviews) Be sure to: have good walking boots +... More
