    An exhilarating Must-See Experience !!
My family and I were looking at things to do near Munnar in the evening, and we came across this Kalari-Kshetra here by chance. It was quite an experience, definitely waay better than my expectations! The Kathakali show was not just a dance, they did quite a showcase showing all the fine movements and details of the artform (they even make it a bit interactive). This is one show for an hour from 5-6pm. The Kalaripaitu show was next, starting with amazing feats with different weapons, all locally trained and highly skilled professionals with a real noticable respect for the martial artform. I wont spoil everything they did, but if you do have an hour or two in the evening near Anachal, please visit it! You won't regret it.

    Very different experience. Unique !
The first half of the show was very traditional and artistic dance. Very different from anything I have seen before. Very unique. The second part was amazing athletics and stunts in a fighting show. I personally enjoyed the second half but that’s only because I’m not a dance or arts fan. I would recommend the show as it will almost certainly be something you have never seen before and it is incredible value for money.

    Spectacular martial art show!
The kalaripayattu martial arts show was spellbinding. I’m not sure I even blinked. I didn’t take any pictures because I would have missed seeing something for sure, fumbling with my phone. Beautiful, powerful, and fierce. The sparks flying off the weapons dispeled any doubts that the fighting was real. I had no knowledge about this art form before I saw the show and have learned since that it is a 3000 year art form that originated right here in the south of India, said the be the mother of all other martial art forms. This show is not to be missed. All of the performers were incredible but I was particularly taken with Lalu. I look forward to seeing it on my next trip to India.

    Awesome traditional martial arts performance
We went for back to back two shows during our munar visit in October. The first was Kathakali performance. It was good but usually one can experience it in other cities like Bangalore. The 2nd one was traditional martial arts demos and it was awesome . You will be on the edge of your seat every minute. It’s difficult to experience at other places. I highly recommend this for anyone and everyone who visits munar.

Simply adipoli!

    Great martial arts show!
Incredible show, and lots of talent. Loved it a lot! The katas were smooth, whilst all movements were strong. Martial artists were lovely and is one of the oldest forms of martial arts (Kalaripayattu)

    An amazing cultural event's
The show was amazing, we really enjoyed. It was an 1 hour show. It reminded me of our ancient technique and this practice can definitely beat MMA. We also clicked pictures in their battle field with their equipments. Got to know about people who are practicing this on daily basis.

Don't miss these incredible evening shows!
Wow, we visited here tonight and the performances were really amazing! Lots of fast paced, tightly choreographed combats from performers who all were really happy to share their art with us. The feats of skill and bravery (especially when they started to bring fire into the performance) were really impressive! Extra kudos goes to them for involving the audience, bringing us down to the arena to see the weapons ourselves and take some very cool photos. With all the breathtaking natural scenery of Munnar, it would be easy to miss this but please don't - its a highly recommended cultural experience and a memory you'll take with you 😊

Viewers sit too close to the activities. Viewers are exposed and there is no in-between protection. Sharp metallic objects, fire, sparks are used in the show/activities. Performers may be the trained experts and must be taking the utmost precautions, but torn mattresses being used in the show do point out to the compromises creeping in. We, in the first row, did experience the drops of flammable liquid hitting us in the first swivel of the rod with fire at the ends of it. Also, not sure how safe a nylon dress is from the sparks, flying in the last act.

I really appreciate the efforts in running such a show, but urge the organizers to upscale the safety aspect. It seemed to be a popular show. The seats were full. I guess they can charge more to cover the safety aspects, if necessary.

I along with my 3 friends watched 2 shows - Traditional Kathakali show and Kalari Kshetra (Also known as a local mixed martial arts show). The experience was really underwhelming to me, however, I was surprised to see varied opinions on both of the shows by multiple folks including my friends. I and my friends all agreed that the Kalari Kshetra martial arts show was nothing more than a local circus show and it is not associated with martial arts. We paid 500 per ticket for front-row balcony seats and considered it to be quite expensive and couldn't watch the show clearly.
On the other hand, I found the Traditional Kathakali to be okayish but it was loved by my friends and hence worth a try. We paid 300 per ticket for the Kathakali show which was the price for a normal ticket.
I would recommend buying front-row seats for the Kathakali show only.

Kalari is the oldest Indian martial art that originated Kerala, a state on the southwestern coast of India with a history spanning over 3 000 years. The show I saw in Munnar was amazing, breathtaking and thrilling. The precision of the fighters, the details of the individual performances show incredible preparation and training. Also it is necessary to take into consideration what is behind the history and content of this martial art.
I highly recommend going to the show and enjoying this local specialty, which has survived to these days thanks to the daily preparation of local warriors.

I was very sceptical about kathakali as i have no knowledge about the art form.

But at this place, they introduced me to Navarasa and Mudras which i understand are the essential elements of kathakali.

Later when the short play "Narakasuravadham" started i was able to understand the entire story. I was even able to explain the story to my friends simply by observing the facial expressions of the artists. of course i read a jist of the story before the play and that helped me understand the play even better.

If a newbie like me could explain the story of narakasura, nakrathundi, jayanthan etc along with the facial expression of karunam, bheebalsam, raudram etc to a group of friends, i think they really deserve credit. I really thank kalari kshetra for introducing me into the art of kathakali

The first show , is an historic legend of old Indian heritage. Very interesting and colorful. 2 actors perform for 1 hour , first artistic pantomime and then the legend .come 15-20 minutes in advance to watch the makeup process . The second show , some acrobatics and martial arts , you really may skip. Each show costs 2 USDLRS.

This was a wonderful show! We stayed for the entire 2 hours and it was well worth it. The performers were very professional and there was a good amount of crowd involvement with volunteers taken from the audience during both segments. They also offer a photo op with the performers at the end of each segment. Definitely recommend this and glad we attended!

This place deserves so much more praise/support than what it is currently getting. Yes, they are entertaining but more than that, they are helping preserve the ancient heritage of this land.

There are 2 shows - Kathakali and Kalari - both run for 1 hour each in a traditional style arena and carry separate tickets. It is for certain that your 2 hours will be well spent.

To be honest, we didn’t go with high expectations but as soon as the show started, we were glad to have experienced this traditional Indian marital arts performance.

We were on the edge of our seats the whole time thoroughly engrossed by the physical and intense show. They kept us engrossed for almost an hour.

Highly appreciate the hard work and dedication put in by all the performers over the years to reach this level of perfection.
