About
We're a local, small-scale chocolate company in Roatan, Honduras, founded in 2010. Our primary mission is to create the finest chocolate in Central America, and obviously THE WORLD!, while also giving back to the local indigenous communities and protect the rainforest where our cacao comes from. Our main location, on West End, Roatan is the home of our factory, bakery and our coffeeshop. We also have two small chocolate kiosks in Roatan, one on each of the cruise ports. Visit us to learn more about our rare cacao beans, protecting the rainforest, the chocolate making process, the health benefits of cacao, the birth of chocolate and of course to try our delicious jaguar friendly chocolate.

- AJ MScottsdale, Arizona103 contributionsGreat Chocolate Making ClassWe did the two-hour chocolate making tour with Dani. He made the time fly by as he told us the history of chocolate and guided us through the process. We came home with two large, dark chocolate bars. It was so much fun! I highly recommend it.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- Elisa D68 contributionsTasty chocolate! This tiny little factory was well worth the visit. It was fascinating learning about cacao and making chocolate. There were little dishes with tongs where you could taste all of the varieties of chocolate they had. Just a few are almond, chiles, coffee. I bought a pure 80% cacoa bar, which was not terribly sweet.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 14, 2024

It is the best coffee shop in West End! We are just sad we discovered the hidden gem on our last morning!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 10, 2024

Everything looked great but we couldn’t pass up the ice cream. Cute decorations, comfy seating, and cool a/c too. Love it!Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 27, 2024

Basically, this is a quick stop in a small chocolate store. You receive a brief introduction on how the chocolate is made but there is no actual viewing of the process. There are a few samples to try, and then you can buy a candy bar for $5 each. There was little else - no other chocolate candies, such as chocolate caramels, chocolate covered jellies, etc. No brownies, or chocolate sauce for ice cream. No viewing window to watch the process or even a video. There is a lot of potential here to make this a memorable stop on an excursion, but they have done so little with this.

My daughter, a Berkley Law Student, and her husband a student at El Paso Community College visited the Roatan Chocolate Factory and were asked to change tables twice by the manager until finally they were asked to sit outside on the scalding Honduran heat and humidity! The manager claimed that the tables inside the restaurant were “reserved” however, there were no “reserved” signs on these tables. There were ten members of our family visiting Roatan from Texas, California and the Honduran mainland.and these experience truly soured our trip. When I questioned the manager about the way she had treated my daughter and her husband, she did not apologize, in fact, she was also rude to me. This place of business claims to advocate for the Honduran wildlife, how about starting with the basics and treat the native Honduran humans fairly first?

This company is a eco-friendly biz. They are trying to become a world leader in chocolate through their ambassadorship to supporting the rain forest. BTW the chocolates is amazing. Worth a stop. Chocolate bars aren't cheap, but you will buy 4 and get one free.

Colorful and welcoming spot to learn about quality and sustainable chocolate production. Smells heavenly when you walk into the building, with tasty treats available in the cafe and chocolate shop. Went upstairs and toured the chocolate making facility and tasted the delicious candy samples. Great stop for chocolate lovers!

Some friends tipped us off to the amazing Indian food here so we stopped in for lunch. Wow! We love Indian food and this was among the best we've had. Not a huge selection (maybe 5-6 dishes?) but the 4 of us each had a different dish and all were delicious! The Chicken Tikka Masala was a highlight and the naan was soooo good. Really reasonable prices, too, with lunches around $7US.
The "tour" itself was a little underwhelming, but probably because they weren't actually making chocolate that day. On the other hand, it was free and we learned a bit about how our favorite food was made, so worth a stop!

The chocolate is exceptional, the treats and drinks (we sampled many over the course of a week) were all very good and made with their chocolate. The staff is outrageously friendly. They include a free tour and the only complaint I could come up with is our guide was so excited about the process of making chocolate he talked a little fast. But it was very obvious that he was passionate about what they are doing there and was very knowledgeable.

I’ve not been to a chocolate factory tour before and this experience was anything but ‘factory-like’. The chocolate is handmade by two women on the second floor. Interesting to see the process.
The cafe doubles as the sales room for the bars and snacks. You could also get lunch but we were at the start of our day tour and opted for their excellent iced and hot coffee and the largest Nanaimo square we’d ever seen.

Who doesn’t like chocolate! Cute little place that is better visited when the cruise ships are NOT in port. Visited this place twice during our visit. Sat on the porch sipping cappuccino our first visit and on the second tried one of their tasty desserts called Carmalita that was unbelievable with another cappuccino. I also purchased some bars to take home. The consistency of the bars are different from what I am accustomed to. It is hard to bite the chocolate due to its thickness, I’m afraid of breaking my teeth off. The white chocolate bar I brought home is not to my liking.

Dear Roatán Chocolate Factory, I cannot speak for your other customers and their opinion on your coffee, but as a quality coffee lover your capuccino simply was of a low quality. Equally I do not understand why you´d make a statement that your coffee comes from the farm that was awarded the first price in the "Cup of Excelence." This is simply a false statement as you can consult the results here:
allianceforcoffeeexcellence. org - the winners clearly came from Marcala, with runner ups from San Andrés, Lempira and Santa Barbara, places which are miles away from Danlí.
The only farm from Danli in the list, is on the 26th place - equally, the fact that a farm is in the "same eco-system" as a farm that´s performing well doesn´t say much about the quality of said farm - while this in the end just as well comes down to cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest process practices.
When it comes to having no basil on the caprese panini, while actually having it fresh in your garden, in a way looks worst on your service whil it emphasises the lack of effort put in by your staff. I truly hope you´ll improve this - but, as I said, I suppose it´d make more sense for you to focus on the chocolate. We addressed the issues with the manager present personally last weekend when we were there - but then and equally now I feel you´ve put more effort in coming up with elaborate explanations that this was a "one off" rather than just taking the criticism and truly improve your practice. Shortly said, it wasn´t that 1 dish or drink was off - it truly was everything part of the order + the lack of proper customer service to another customer, which to me truly gives the impression that this is a structural problem with your café and not an incident, hence my 1 star review.

Hello JgbmEdin,
We're very sorry that our cappuccino wasn't up to par that day. We're going to make sure our baristas are properly re-trained so that this doesn't happen again. Regarding the basil, you're completely right! There's nothing to be said; it's a real shame that having a garden with basil it's not being used in our Caprese! We've made sure our kitchen staff is aware of this situation. We're certain this won't happen again.
With regards to the Cup Of Excellence, here are the results of the competition in 2017: Enter Keywords in Google: "Technoserve" "ORG" "Honduran" "Farmer" "Cup of Excellence" and click on the first link. As you can see, the winner's name is Oscar Ramirez and he's from El Paraiso. Sorry for the misunderstanding. We hope that this clears things out for you regarding the origin of our coffee. Know that we never attempt to ignore your comments or criticism. In fact, the first thing we did was speak to our owners about this and we've already scheduled a training session with our baristas.
Finally, you never told us on what day did you visit us? This is really important for us, so that we can have a better grasp of what happened that day and what can be done to improve! With all of our hearts and our best intentions, we want you to know that it's in our utmost desire to become better for you and all of our customers. I hope that you can give us another chance to prove ourselves and once again, thank you very much for all of your feedback!

Hi Evelyn,
Please remove your review! You obviously have the wrong place. Small boutique businesses survive or die with reviews, please cut them some slack. It's the right thing to do!
