This is a artificial lake created by a large dam. From the town it is quite picturesque. However, it has a lot of algae and doesnt seem that fresh when you are out on lake. There are several options for boat rides around the lake for $20 to $30

Just got back from taking a 1 hour boat ride across the Lake of Suchitlan. Our tour guide was very interactive and the cost was very good.
This is a man made Lake with 66 Islands! The Natural Habitat for wildlife is protected.
The 1 Island was completely covered with Angry Birds! The island was WHITE with the poop from the birds and the noise coming from that island was incredible!!! These Black Birds sounded just like the ANGRY BIRDS GAME!! Our tour guide stopped the boat for awhile and we just watched and listened and oh yeah, smelled it!
There also was a kind of bird on the island called the Sleeping Bird, that was a White Bird.
There are Zip Lines close by that you can ride, although we didn't take the time to do that.
Lovely Restraunts off the edge of the Lake, take the time to relax and enjoy El Salvadorian food, YUM!!
We stayed in the EL TEJADO HOTEL and Restraunt just up the hill for the lake and we LOVED our time there.
Looking forward to visiting again!!

Lot of birds in this man made lake...the lake is very clean and beautiful..the private boat is reasonable price and posted price so no cheating anything everyone pay the same.. The guide who rode the boat only speaks Spanish so need to know Spanish will be helpful for the history and name of the birds..
We really enjoyed this trip and will return again.. Do not miss if you will be there or love wildlife(birds).

I live in Suchitoto and commonly take friends and family out on our reservoir. The experience is ever changing and always wonderful. Local boatmen offer set tours all posted with estimated times and cost. My favorite is the tour out to the bird islands(the entire reservior was declared a RAMSAR site some years aGO) where the types and quanities of migratory water bird is ever changing. The boatmen will aslo share some local history, in Spanish about the makeing of the lake, what was there before and its effects on tyhe local economy. This boat tour costs $30/boat and you can get up to 10 people on the boat for this price. There are several other tours both shorter and longer but my favorite is the Bird Island.

However the lake is not natural (created by humans), it’s a wonderful area.
Over 60 species of birds can be found. Amazing nature colours.

We did a canoe trip here that was organised by our bed and breakfast and loved it. We saw an array of wild life and felt very at peace here.

I thought the best view was from La Posada de Suchlitan - it's a beautiful lake, the colour is spectacular.

We ate lunch down here. It is a nice view of the lake and a fun place to get a drink and some lunch. Our guide took us here. We probably would not have found it on our own.

I walked down to the Lake from Suchitoto and entered the Puerto Touristico San Juan. Down at the lake, I met a boatmen from the local association who took me out on a one and a half hour guided tour. We stopped to see a crashed airplane and a cave where a hermit lived for 14 yrs. Make sure to pack a beer or two for the trip and practice your Spanish as there is no English spoken.

The lake was lovely (even though the waters were low in high season due to the late arrival of the rains). The trip was great and we even stopped off for a memorable stop and the bar on the "island" over on the far side. The only let down was the multitude of accumulated plastic waste highly visible on the shore of the lake... brought in with the water... but hopefully local efforts to clear this away will enhance the environment. The amazing attraction of bird watching was still worth it!
