Overview
More
The Devil’s Nose awaits us beyond the quaint village of Alausi; a defiant outcrop that looks almost impossible to climb down. The train descents, in a breathtaking maneuver, 500 meters in just 12 kilometers across a zigzag craved in the rocks of the mountain, and continues deep into the Chanchan River gorge in the Southern Ecuadorian Andes. The train operates from Tuesdays to Sundays departing from Alausi or Thursdays to Fridays departing from Riobamba.

Although the scenery was beautiful, the trip itself did not have the "thrill" that seemed to be the motivation for this attraction. It was a very sedate ride. In addition, there was an hour stop before heading back to the depot. Although the entertainment by...More

Included as part of a 4 day tour of Ecuador out of Quito. Quaint wonderful hillside town, rustic old style train. The train trip involves zig-zag switch-backs very well explained by our conductress/guide in our carriage (Gabriella). The history and the development of the train....More

We really enjoyed this trainride, winding through the valley and with switchbacks, because the Nariz del Diablo is too steep to just go by. The guide in the train was in Spanish and English and clear to understand. We were advised to reserve places on...More

For starters, we loved the little town of Alausi and we were excited about the train ride. What an engineering feat this was to get the zig-zag train track up the side of a mountain. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed the amazing...More

The train was a very neat attraction to see but very touristy. Trains ride was one hour with an hour stop at the turn round. I found this stopover too long and not necessary. Our car was full and difficult to see and take photos...More

Talk about bringing out the inner child! Well, this lovingly restored little train line does just that as it weaves it way down steep inclines, does switchbacks and provides you with absolutely spectacular views of the Andes. It was a truly magical experience.
