- heatherpiro322 contributionsBeautiful! What a beautiful garden! And it’s free! The staff were lovely and the gardens were amazing! It is right across from the zoo. It is a public space, so anyone can just walk in. I got there before 7 and they opened the gates about 10 mins early. I saw all kinds of amazing birds! The zoo is literally across the street. If I had more time I would have gone. By the time I left at 10, the parking lot was full and there was a queue of cars to get into the zoo. There is a lovely little shop. I didn’t try the restaurant.Visited April 2023Traveled on businessWritten April 28, 2023
- 2dogladyTennessee919 contributionsBeautiful Place to VisitWe were in the area and decided to visit the gardens before leaving town. The area of town is nice and the garden grounds are so lovely. We have been to several Japanese gardens but this one had a bamboo forest to walk through that made it unique to us. I think we came after the spring blooms but before the summer blooms because we did not see lots of color. But the garden grounds are so pleasant to walk through and it has a good amount of shaded areas. There are a number of benches on which to rest if needed. We spent about 90 minutes here before it started heating up outside.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 2, 2023
- Anonymous8551,712 contributionsLovely, free shaded walk aroundWhile there was less than I expected in bloom, the garden was quite nice and the drive through this neighborhood was beautiful as well. We got to the restaurant early enough to eat lunch. Soup was great and so was the service! Be aware that there is a note posted if you arrive at 1:30, you have to carry out your meal. Sort of tough and a bit early. Thanks for having this free for everyone.Visited July 2023Written July 18, 2023

- Steven PAuburn, Alabama253 contributionsNice, quiet spot to enjoy nature (For Free!)We were so pleased today to visit the botanical gardens after not having been in quite some time. Having formerly lived in B'ham, we were so impressed with this! The gift shop was impressive. The gardens were nice even in Winter (don't miss the Japanese Garden). Best of all, it's FREE! We missed the cafe (due to hours) but have heard it's good as well. This is a great spot for locals and visitors alike.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 27, 2024

We stopped by here on our way through Birmingham. It was a beautiful place. We didn't get to walk through everything (it's a really big place) because it was July and so hot! Also the conservatory is closed on Mondays, the day we were there.

The best botanical gardens I have visited! Tremendous variety, very well maintained, and a wonderful wildflower area with streams, multiple trails and it feels so peaceful.

A large garden with multiple themed areas. Biggest surprise was the extensive Japanese Garden. It's location in a nice neighborhood with nearby specialty stores and restaurants is a plus as is the free admission.

There is quite a bit of goodness in bloom, if specifically azaleas, I would suggest calling them. Happy travels!

Absolutey YES to a picnic lunch, and there's dozens of places to eat it. If the weather's nice, bring a blanket (or fold-up chairs and a table if that's more your style) and all the acoutrements, and chow down! I've seen folks with wine, but I'm not sure about the rules for alcoholic beverages. I do know that you can't do any grilling or cooking.
