The Asen family represents historical leaders that established the Second Bulgarian Empire and ruled the Emprire between 1187 and 1256. Members of the family led the rebellion against the Byzantine Empire in 1185. Once the Byzantine Empire reconquered Bulgaria, members of the Asen family occupied...More

Glorious monument with fantastic statues depicting a family of great leaders. Worth the views from and to the old town.

An ugly and megalomanic soviet-era monument, that sits on a nice cliff and does possess a good view, but otherwise is very uninspired and unremarkable.

Beautiful park area. How ever it is not a easy walk. It's down hill and back up! You can get a good overview look at it, from different places in town above it.

The monument is about a 10-15 minute walk from our hotel, so we went to have a look in the morning before leaving VT. It's an impressive structure, showcasing 4 Asen Tsars from the 2nd Kingdom. It's an interesting area which gives you another view...More

This monument dominates the river valley and is a deceivingly easy walk down from the old town. Worth a visit.

...but not much more than that. It's quite a walk from the city centre, but a pleasant one as long as you do it early morning the July heat!

Just walked by the monument, but was impressed. Can recommend it as a highlight for your light stroll out of the city, combined with a short walk up the small hill overlooking the train station
