It is not possible to walk from Copacabana beach to Ipanema. One has to go around Arpoador park and beach. On the Ipanema side, this is where the surfers hang out. Lovely and safe walk during the day.

Arpoador has an strategic view from the transition of Copacabana to Ipanema, it is a must see in the first time at Rio. Go up the rocks (easy) and get some pics.

Most of the days we stayed in Rio, it was cloudy and we really couldn't see the sunset. We walked up there on one early in the morning. There were not too many people. Ipanema beach is pretty clean and nicely kept. But not sure...More

Adjacent to Ipanema, near the Arpoador garden. Nice, but not so attractive as Ipanema. Lots of people.

Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the
best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is
inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from

high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which
can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue.
The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing
many art galleries that show contemporary art. There
