This is a collection of books, articles, and research video material on Jorge Amado, as a writer. The feature translation of his book in more than a hundred languages, a rich collection of correspondence, and a tremendous amount of written appraisals of his work. Amado is by far the most famous Brazilian writer and there are 100s theses and dissertations on his work. You can find the biographies written about his life. But again, it’s great to research!

Jorge Amado is one of the most acclaimed Brazilian authors. His books reflect the culture of his home State of Bahia and its people. The "Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado" is located at the very heart of Pelourinho, the historical quarter of Salvador - and Pelourinho is indeed one of Jorge Amado's characters. And a very important one! The "Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado" aims to preserve his legacy and the local culture. As of June 2019, the "Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado" was closed for renovations. Please check before going. Enjoy!

Take a photo as a postal in the top of the street, you can see a fantastic view of Pelourinho. But take care, if you walk on the street, is too steep, don't fall.

Even if one is unfamiliar with this famous author, this museum could be worth a visit, particularly for those who have interests in recent history and culture of Bahia and Brazil. Amado is author of many books, and there are informative displays for many of them. Succinct summaries in English appear for each book below an interesting collage of images that include book covers, sketches, and photos. Collectively, the summaries provide information not only about the author but also about the subjects he addressed in his novels--often characters and events in everyday life in Bahia. A small gift shop has items that could be unusual souvenirs to take home or give to others.

This mansion is the face of the region. Outside, the architecture is simple but very nice when you see where it is and the suroundings. Inside there is a small museum about a very famouns Brazilian writer.

The cathedral looked beautiful in the daylight with its upper floors shining under the sunrays. The doors and windows were ornamental and the walls were decorated with ancient paintings and stuffed animals.

We went in out of curiosity as I'd read some of Amado's works in the past. It is a collection of letters and photos and tributes to his writings. It's well done. Oh, and there's a small café inside.
