One of the most spectacular churches in the world, this famous church is richly adorned inside with gold, silver and precious stones and has ceiling art that has been compared to that of the Sistine Chapel.

Buy a ticket ($5) - the ceiling of the ticket hall is full of perception designs which change based on where you are standing in the room. The cathedral itself is stuunning - mostly gold plated, very unique and unlike any other I've seen. visited...More

Plenty to see here. This is a stunning old church with added courtyard, old rooms and so on. There is another (can't remeber the name) more or less next door

Luckily I had a guide that was able to give me important details on the Sao Francisco church. It is amazing how much gold and details the Church invested during that time. There was no expense spared and there’s nothing random on details. It is...More

Unassuming on the outside, and starting slowly within its cloisters, this certainly surprises when you enter the main Church, which is laden with gold leaf from head to toe and absolutely amazes. This is stunning and don’t miss it!

The church is jaw-dropping beautiful. Our visit was part of a private tour. I’ve seen beautiful churches all over Latin America and Europe, but this one has to be the most impressive I’ve seen. Don’t miss this gem.

A superb gem of Portuguese architecture, both the internal courtyard with its blue tiles and the beautiful wood carved panels which adorn the church itself are not to be missed. The entrance from a side door is especially designed to appease both God and Mammon...More

Great place to know a bit of history of rococó's archicteture and art. Golden Walls and beautiful portuguese Pictures compound this place. I suggest to pay some guide tour for this visit. Tickets only R$5

The entrance costs 5 BRL (as most churches in Salvador) but it is totally worth it. The church is covered in gold foliage with rich barroque art. The other rooms of the church and convent are covered with portuguese tile panels.

Truly a spectacular example of Brazilian Baroque style. The outside is nice but you can't quite believe what is on the inside. The gold - the ceilings - the tiles from Portugal - the elaborate carvings. Really impressive and there's nothing else that comes close....More

Beware of “tour guides” that start helping you out, giving you a tour, they look official wearing t-shirts and all. They’ll give you a full tour and then ask you for money.
