We had some spare time in Manaus after visiting a jungle lodge so we decided to try the CIGS zoo. The zoo was small but the animals had reasonably big cages (to be in Brazil). We spent 2h at the zoo but I think you...More

not advertised by the cruise companies - this small zoo is very much a place for locals. Free if you are a pensioner but not expensive if you do have to pay. Well kept and run by the army - these are animals they have...More

This is a rescue centre for Amazonian animals, many in huge enclosures. It was very hot in December but the animals are fascinating to watch in an attractive setting.

We enjoyed our visit here. The place is a bit worn as are most of the exhibits. Still we had a great time cruising around the place. It’s only a $1.50 U.S. it’s well worth a visit. It was fun watching the locals with their...More

A very interesting zoo run by the army. Appears to be a rescue and research zoo for injured animals and also animal care seems to be part of a soldier's training. Best parts are the many jaguars, monkeys and parots. Also very interesting to watch...More

We found we were lost for ideas in Manaus other than seeing the square but our Amazon Tour guide suggested this zoo. It only costs R$5 per person for entry. It has a range of animals from the Amazon with some being looked after as...More

This is a Zoo that is maintained by the Brazilian Army, as they have a "War in the Jungle" Specialization Center in the region. The soldiers usually find and gather animals that have been harmed and need care, plus receive also animals found by other...More

It was a zoo filled with animals some who had been wounded - so very nice they have been or are being rehabilitated. When I walked in the jungle I had not seen many of the animals since they are nocturnal so this was an...More

The CIGS zoo has improved a bit in recent years apparently, but is still about the quality you'd expect for a zoo around the 1960s. The animals do seem healthy enough, but many of them are in very small and inadequate cages.
