- Lynn SLeague City, Texas619 contributionsFavorite part of Arlington National CemeteryThis is my favorite site to visit at Arlington. The graves of President John F. Kennedy, wife Jackie, two infant children along with the eternal flame draw such a picturesque site looking up the hill above it to the Custiss-Lee Mansion. It is said when JFK visited here, he remarked that he could stay here forever, and forever came only too soon a few months later. To the left of the JFK family gravesites, are the lone graves of Robert Francis (Bobby) Kennedy, Edward Moore (Teddy) Kennedy, and a memorial marker for Joseph Kennedy, who died in World War iI and whose body was never recovered. The lone cross markers for Bobby and Teddy's grave sites stand in stark contrast to the grandeur of the JFK gravesite with the eternal flame. Don't forget when you visit the Custiss-Lee Mansion to look down to the JFK gravesite just below.Visited March 2023Written March 24, 2023
- EyekaytooLeverkusen, Germany2,996 contributionsSo glad that I can say that I experienced this solemn place first hand. Before completing our short visit to Arlington Cemetery just after 5 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon in early June, my son & I hurried up to see the President John F. Kennedy Grave Site. We had the place to ourselves to gaze down on the graves of the former president and his wife. Other family members are also buried close by. The eternal flame adds that poignant touch to this special place It was so silent and peaceful up there. And I'm so pleased that I had the chance to visit such an important last resting place of such an iconic leader of the United States of America during truly difficult times.Visited June 2023Written July 17, 2023
- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand3,777 contributionsPaying respects to one of America's finest!Nearly everyone who visits Arlington National Cemetery stops by the grave of John F. Kennedy, with its eternal flame. It is both sad and disheartening to reflect on the lack of true leaders America has endured in the past several decades. How wonderful it would be to again have a young, idealistic, visionary president that speaks of compassion and making life better for all rather than the subsequent line up of dividers and xenophobes.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten September 10, 2023

America's first modern media-savvy president is still a well-known figure among the laymen. His gravesite, occupying a prime spot at the Arlington National Cemetery, is the most eye-catching and well-visited one. The eternal flame ironically reflects the influence of Kennedy family. There is clear signage from the main entrance.

When I visited with the family we all passed this site. It's situated below Arlington House and you access the site using the walkway or the steps from the road below. Visitors here should also remember to visit the graves of Bobby, Edward and Jack whose headstones are situated at the bottom of the stairs and to the right. the tour bus stops here. Jackie married Aristotle Onassis after JFK's death but opted to be buried next to JFK after her own. Very fitting indeed.

I have been fortunate to chat with my grandparents about the day Kennedy was shot. The impact this had on their lives. Though this happened well before my time, the perspective they had helped me appreciate this time. The eternal flame was a reminder that his presence in our country is still here.
Overall, this is a must stop location in The Arlington Cemetery.

What's the best way of getting guided tour tickets for Arlington? Also, do the guided tours give you enough time to hop off, take photos and ask questions? I'd like to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and see the changing of the guards. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Depending on where you are staying you can take a cab or other means of public transportation. There is a shuttle that you can get tickets right at the main entrance. It is a HOHO set up and they provide more than enough time to get off and roam. Changing of the guard is something you do not want to miss

I live here and visited Arlington a year ago. Is the Kennedy gravesite WALKABLE from the Metro station/visitors center? Or do you need s get on s tour?

If you are very fit you certainly can walk anywhere especially the cemetery, but if you have any doubts look for transportation. It can be very warm depending on the season.
