The idea of giving huge respect to the country's fallen unknown soldiers is very appropriate. Nearly every visitor to Arlington National Cemetery visits the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watches the precision changing of the guard. It is all very appropriate and poignant, except in my view it is diminished by the obvious fake ceremonial rifles that the guards use; they look like cheap plastic toys and seem somewhat disrespectful.

On arriving late in the afternoon at the Arlington Cemetery we made our way straight up to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier(s). There was already quite a few people sitting on the marble steps gazing quietly down onto the tomb itself and marveling at the precision of the solitary guard marching up and down there. The respect of the place and what it represents was palpable in the air. Really awesome. The only thing spoiling the atmosphere in my humble opinion was the noise of the commercial jets as they came in to land at the nearby airport. By the way, the views over to Lincoln Memorial in the distance and beyond are quite memorable.

Somber and sobering to know that an American soldier is guarded day and night. Truly a unique visit.

It was truly moving to be there and see the changing of the guard. Also able to see a wreath laying ceremony which is also done many days. An honor to see the dedication of the soldiers guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honor of all who have fallen. Also visit the museum near the tomb to see more about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I had a difficult time finding the entrance to the tomb. It is near the tomb, and does not require crossing any busy streets. There is a series of steps that goes down into a tunnel, which takes you to the tomb. The women's bathroom line can be long, and there are only two stalls, so plan some time. The stairs are steep and many! So keep that in mind.

The view from the top is fantastic, and it seemed like there was always someone around who was willing to take a photo of me. Well worth the visit. I highly recommend it. It is also free!

I went October of 2018, not 2022, but 2018 was not available from the drop down box.

We were able to view it on Easter Sunday. Make sure you read about the history before visiting. Helps add some context.

If you have the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery, you have to witness the changing of the guards ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The military precision and meaning behind each movement is mind boggling and spectacular. It is a breathtaking and emotional experience not to be missed.

A MUST if you are visiting the area. All Americans should be humbled and thankful for our military service men and women.
