Visit us and marvel at the ingenuity of mankind! The portraits in our Portrait Gallery spontaneously come to life, engaging in humorous banter about the history and importance of America's intellectual property protection system. Our short film, "Extraordinary Innovation", looks at the importance of intellectual property in sports and showcases how ideas effect our daily lives. Our rotating main exhibit has covered everything from food to shoes and features a number of interactive and engaging displays. Our Inductees to the Hall of Fame are represented throughout our exhibitions and are honored on a monumental wall, which features a kiosk full of information about the Inductees and their inventions. We also have occasional special exhibits about individuals and groups that have made significant contributions to the world through their intellectual property. And, for those who like to shop, the Museum Store features an interesting mix of USPTO merchandise and inventive products.

Read about this museum in a magazine and decided to check it out. It's free. Small museum inside the us patent office dedicated to inventors and their inventions. Really interesting

Small. Free. Tech stuff reported on. Much of it contemporary esoteric digital theoretical tech and bio tech. An interesting cabinet display of the evolution of Kodak hand held cameras. This could be part of a visit to the area if you were doing something else...More

This was my favorite stop in Alexandria. It’s free and focuses on the evolution of technology, brands, products and inventions. I wish I had a little more time to explore, but I got there 10 minutes before closing (3pm on Saturdays). The clerk was really...More

As you walk in, there is a small museum in which you can see many inventions and exhibits from all walks of life. It is preferable to have a docent explain the lay out and some of the exhibits. The best part was the program...More

Not really a museum. Just a few rooms inside the US Patent and Trademark Office. Not many exhibits, but the few were interesting. Hopefully someday they will expand the amount of exhibit space. Would not make a special visit here unless you are already in...More

We had a couple of extra hours and were glad we spent it in this creative, fun museum. There are a number of interactive exhibits which provide information regarding those inventions/inventors who have been inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Although these satisfied some curiosities...More

I like the National Inventors Hall of Fame in the Carlyle neighborhood of Alexandria VA! Filled with 'How does this work' type factoids. The folding wing system, pioneered on the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, was worked out using a paper clip and a rubber eraser. Who...More

We were visiting Old Town in Alexandria and stumbled across this hidden gem near our hotel. It is in the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) - which is a nice building in and of itself - and celebrates and provides information on inventors. There...More

It is a little out of the way, but worth it. Love a free museum and it was really interesting. We spent a little over an hour and really enjoyed it.

A close up look to the majority and significant inventions of our time. You can learn a lot about inventions, patents and the purpose of them.
