The Apothecary served local customers, including the Washingtons and Robert E. Lee, between 1792 and 1933. The shop was transformed into a museum shortly after its closing and visitors can still view the original ingredients, products, and documents left behind by this 141-year-old family business.

I’ve visited many apothecaries before at frontier towns and museums but this one is special due to the second floor of the building and the excellent guide. I will recommend to anyone checking out Old Town Alexandria.

For $5 you will receive an excellent guided small group tour through a 200+ yrs old apothecary that is still intact. The presentation and artifacts are fascinating, our guide Sean was extremely knowledgeable medically and historically. A nice addition to time in Old Town.

The caretaker was great- She had a lot of great information and was entertaining even my kids enjoyed it (5&9). Mom is a pharmacist so that may have swayed the children’s attention. The caretaker looked visibly nervous when saying “don’t touch anything unless I say...More

This is a very interesting little museum. I really enjoyed its authenticity with all the bottles, counters, etc left from when this family owned business closed its doors in the 1930s. Our tour guide was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. It’s definitely worth a visit.

We popped by here to visit the gift shop. While it is small, it has a lot of fun and quirky medicine-related gifts. Something to keep in mind if you want to get somebody something a little more unusual from Alexandria. Staff were super friendly...More

We went here because it was suggested by a lady on another tour. It was well worth the time. You will learn quite a bit about old time medicine
