If you do anything in Austin, this should be it!

This is nature, so don’t expect a vast cloud of bats that blanket the sky.

But, you will see thousands of bats streaming out from under the bridge.

We were at the south east side of the bridge. That was great as you see them coming out from below. $13 parking just get there at least an hour before sunset. Also, park near the exit. Horrible getting out. Also bring a chair or blanket to wait on.

On top of the bridge towards the south would be the best to see them streaming. But I think the best option would be from a kayak or boat.

It was not what I was expecting, but it was really cool to read about the bats and why they come to this specific bridge.

A must see if un Austin during peak bat season! I decided to go all in with a ticket on a boat viewing and it was incredible. Sunset and bats from the water!

This is a unique and must-see experience. I've heard about the bat bridge, and I've always wanted to see it. There are no words that can adequately describe the experience. It was incredible.

Were there bats as promised? Yes. Maybe about 100, all told, that came out 1-5 at a time over the course of a two hour wait. So, didn't quite live up to the hype, but I'm sure we just caught it on an off day, according to locals. Come early to get a good spot on the bridge, because it was jam packed all the way across, on the banks and every manner of water transport below. Can't believe all 1000 of us or so got the wrong info, so we'll have to come back and try again.

This was such a neat experience. My husband enjoyed himself. I don't like birds in general so I was not a huge fan but I am glad I went and experienced. Got some great shots of the city at night!

The times I’ve been before the bats came out while it was still light and it was amazing. I just went yesterday and the bats didn’t come out until dark and it was much less impressive. We could barely see anything. I wonder how the crowds and boats and flash photography from cellphones have pushed the bats to wait until it’s fully dark.

We went to the bridge to wait for the bats. We parked at the Austin-American Statesman parking lot at 1st St free of charge and walked the 3 or so blocks to the Congress St bridge. There was parking there also and many people sitting on the slope below the bridge. We got there just before sunset and waited until 9:50pm. There were some bats flying out towards the end of our wait but not a huge amount that could be seen in flight. We gave up as did most others. I don’t know if they came out at all. It may be that it doesn’t happen every night but the conditions were good for it—dry and hot. So I guess it’s a crap shoot. We had fun anyway.

Two hours & 13 mins of my life I won’t get back. I know it’s nature and so cannot be a perfectly timetabled event, but still only so much patience can be expected! …one consolation, at least we weren’t stuck on one of the ‘bat watch’ boats, unable to walk away when the bats failed to show. We don’t think there are any bats. It’s a fib told to tourists and the residents of Austin are giggling at us nightly…🤦‍♂️🙄

I obviously was expecting to much. We waited about 45 minutes because we just happened to be walking near the bridge near sunset. It is a pretty walk and the river is nice to experience via boat but the bat part was almost nothing. I'm sure there were a lot of bats but it did not leave any lasting impression on me.
